Chevelle hood pin kit.
 

My 69 Z28 has holes for hood pins in it made by an owner before me. I had to remove them to get my car inspected in my state, and never put them back. Eventually I went ANTIQUE/Vintage, and never have to get it inspected again. After 20 years I'm thinking of adding the 70 Chevelle SS pin kit with the lanyards instead of just looking at a rubber sealed hole with a cover on it.

Anybody know who makes a decent kit that doesn't look cheap or aftermarket? I found this to be correct according to the site info.

Is it just me or is anyone else interested in why a state would flunk a car at inspection for hood pins? I've never heard of such a thing.

If they are the only method of keeping the hood closed that might be a violation. Most states require a double latch system. Like one inside your car and the other under the hood that you have to reach into and unlatch to fully open the hood.

Hmm, all factory hood releases I've dealt with already have a double release or latch system, or a safety catch after the initial release.
His comment gave me the impression that the state inspection didn't like the addition of hood pins. Which would flunk about every 70-72 SS chevelle, lol. Guess if it was the only means of holding the hood down then no one living there could technically license a 6 pack road runner :smile:

States can be funny when it comes to their requirements for inspection passes. I too think it's strange that they would not accept hood pins. It wasn't just Chevelles either: GT350 & GT500 Shelbys, Mopars, AMXs, Mach1 Mustangs, etc. The A12s are unique as hood pins were the only way the hood was attached to the body. Same for 1966 427 Fairlanes.

NHRA requirements for Stock and Super Stock:

Per the 2019 NHRA Rulebook sections 11A and 12A pages 11 and 9 under Body:7 Hood it reads "Full stock hood including latches, hinges, springs, brackets, and braces as originally produced must be retained." With that said you may add hood pins, in addition to the original latch.

The only exclusion would be the A12 and 66 427 Fairlanes because they only came from the factory with hood pins.

I was told with my first experience that the state had issues with pointed protrusions at the front of a moving vehicle. I had some spike bolts on my Harley they didn't like either.

I don't see anything related to the hood of a car let alone hood pins. I believe (???) the two latch hood system is a federal requirement which manufacturers have to provide.

I believe this issue to be a personal discretion thing here. 3 counties here in Delaware, and speaking to friends in all 3 counties seem to go by differing rules. Seems Kent is stricter than the other 2 according to some I have spoke to. Delaware STILL emission tests back to 68 as well. I've even been nabbed for decibel level violations more than a few times.

Guys...all I need to know is about the hood pin kit versus the cheap kits. Please, I would appreciate it. I have been dealing with Delawares BS since 1974, there are ways around these differences between each county. Thanks in advance.

Doing a search, most look just like the one you posted. The only difference seems to be the price which varies from $29.99 to $49.99. I see no difference in them from the photos.

You can spend more money for billet stuff - just doesn't seem worth it. It's just hood pins.
