Hurst shifter recommendations

2 Attachment(s)
I'm looking to install a Hurst shifter in my 68 Camaro and was planning to use a Competition plus I bought over 20 years ago to use in a 79 Z28 but has been in storage since almost new. I forgot how much different the shifter body for a late 2nd gen was from one for a 68. Having recently acquired a chrome stick for the 68 thinking I'd just bolt in and go, I now have to "make" it work or buy another shifter body.
Any thoughts or suggestions on swapping out the lever with one for a 1st gen? Or, sell it and buy a new shifter body? Originality is not a concern for this but it needs to look and work right. I have never disassembled a shifter but I'm not afraid to try it.
Are the new Hurst products as good, better or worse than what they're known for? Thanks for any help and opinions.

That looks like a Chevelle shifter; I would just buy the correct Camaro shifter that's oriented upward and toward the passenger side of the vehicle. I spent a ton of time getting a Doug Nash into a 1st-gen Camaro, and unless the stick is really well centered, it's going to interfere with the console trim.

By the way, I recommend buying a used (old) Comp-Plus shifter body. They are pretty indestructable and I'm not sure if production has since entirely moved overseas, but I believe at least some of the components are now made offshore.

Thanks guys.
And, I apologize for putting this topic in completely the wrong section. Should not be in the classifieds.
