Reading Alternator casting date
1 Attachment(s)
Anybody know how to read the alternator front cover casting date info?
Seems like this would be a good sanity check on the way to verifying a re-stamp alternator. The year is obviously easy. It is surrounded by 12 pie sections that I'll assume are for the month, but they start clocking from where? Then there are dots that maybe correspond to the week? Just as an example, the attached photo is from a 0B13 '837 alternator.Attachment 121878 With the right Camera attachment (mirror) it may be possible to read this while the alternator is assembled? |

This doesn’t answer your question but the inside of my 0D17 ‘837 looks different. Here’s a picture for comparison:

Those dots represent quanity of castings casted in that cavity (mould) . on that month .

So is it correct that the pie shapes reference a month? For the one shown, would that be January or February? At least we could confirm the year and month but maybe not anything beyond that without a huge database to compare dots to weeks. |

It looks like you have two 4X3 grids in the spokes with one having a 69 next to it and the other with a 70? It looks like by the photos that the one next to the 69 has dots in all but one of the grids and the one with 70 has none? Hard to see. Maybe this is another way to verify the date. Maybe that means it was cast in November of 69? Seems early for a mid-April stamped alternator but who knows? |
Muncie cases are dated in a similar fashion.
