Crossram Expert Needed
2 Attachment(s)
I just purchased a portion of a large NOS and rare parts collection from an individual that focused on the rarest of the rare. One of the items he had for over 40 years was a fiberglass air cleaner base and it is in a box with GM labels, but no part numbers. I'm not sure if it is a prototype, SCCA or CanAm piece, aftermarket or what, but I remember talking to him 35 years ago and he said it was a super rare item. Can any of you shed light on this or direct me to a crossram expert who might know? Thanks

Where did it come from , was the collector from Michigan by the name of Joe ? We made some for Joe in the mid 80s big and small base .

Most likely Merle Dupree. People have been buying truckloads of that stuff.

Merle was a great guy. Sold him plenty of those parts back in the day. For some reason I recall he was a big buyer for unused E70 x 15 Goodyear WTGT spare tires.
Between him, Z & Z John, Vic the avocado farmer and SF Frank, much of our NOS went to CA. Hard to believe that was over 30 years ago. |
On page 2 of this thread in the Trans-Am section the CRG Camaro website there are some pics of very similar cross ram bases. I don't know if these are legit pieces made by GM or not.

Thanks for the Camaro.org thread. Yes, I purchased this from the Merle Dupree estate. I know for a fact that he had it for a minimum of 35 years (since I've known him). The box has a faint scribbled "Penske" on it and says "Hold Unit #6". It's identical to the fiberglass unit in the pictures with the "taped over" PCV hole. Any idea as to value and or who might be interested in this? Thanks
