service replacement rear end

Hello-
Continuing on my learning, I know my rear axle housing is not the original, but if it was a service replacement, for some reason, would there be any code on it, and if so, what would it look like?
Thanks as always!
Chris

Pretty sure it would have no code on it. When we replaced the housing under warranty because of a defect in the housing (mind you this is a Buick dealership) in the 70's, we would re-use most or all of the innards from the original axle. Replacement housings would have no code.

I have one in my 69 Z/28. Pretty sure the original had an issue. There are no markings, no stampings, and I even mic'ed the tubes to be sure it hadn't been sanded or ground down. Even though casting number is a month before my car build, I have always suspected a replacement housing. Although, there appears to be some other 08A (late 69) built Camaros with no code stamped in the housing.

Rear casting is June 28, 1969. Car was built first week of Aug. 69. I could be proven wrong about it being a service replacement, but have always thought it was. Had 4.56 gears in it when I got it.
