Need Clutch Recommendation: '69 Chevelle L78/M21/3.73
 

Current clutch is a bit tired. Use will be for general cruising with occasional hard launches on the street with bias ply OEM style/size tires or 7" cheater slicks. In other words I won't be trying to hook it up on a sticky drag strip.

My transmission builer just recommended a Centerforce dual friction clutch for my 69 Camaro for the exact same driving conditons so that's what I'm planning on going with.

I have been replacing center force clutches with Ram units. No 500 mile break in and takes a beating.

This is what I have for my W-31, but I haven't experienced using it so I am hopeful it works well but couldn't recommend LuK yet........ When I was asking for opinion I think Centerforce, Hays Street Strip, and LuK all got votes from several very experienced guys who have Abused them seriously:-)

Put one in my camaro (Luk) with NO issues. I Run L60 Mickey's and dump the clutch on occasion and have no problems. Been over a year now. Feels like the factory clutch which was tuff to beat when new in 69. I love soft pedals. Don't really think you need dual this and dual that. Never had them back in the day and I know 95% of the people do not drive em like they stole em anymore.

Good stuff. Thanks for all your input. Eric, I'm not sure - I've never pulled the tranny. I think it can be figured out though. Can the experts weigh in on what an M21 going to a 3.73. posi in an 06A built Chevelle should be?

I have an LUK in my Corvettes with no issues, but did install one in my Gold 69 RSZ and had to switch it out because of a faulty pressure plate that came with the clutch. Put in a center force and I like it better than the LUK setups. The pedal pressure is lighter and there is a noticeable adhesion difference in my opinion. I have also heard RAM clutches are as good as centerforce and cheaper.

Eric - Two sources indicate a '69 M21 (my trans is original to the car) would have a 10 spline input shaft.
