SHOT BLASTING !!!....OEM Intake Manifolds

I have no way to prove my thoughts..........but Im thinking that some/many/most old school OEM Winters Intake Manifolds
were shot blasted with metal media after casting.

I am not a fan of the cosmetic look when sand cast intakes are glass beaded.

Does anybody have experience or knowledge of: 1) Vibratory Tumbling (What Media) of OEM Sand Cast Intakes, Sand Cast Muncie Cases
2) Shot Blasting, Wheelabrator of Sand Cast Intakes and Trans Case

Thanks for your sharing your thoughts and suggestions

Donnie, Thanks for the reply along with pictures............however the FLASH washed out any detail.

Can you provide us with any detail on the exact sized media used ?

Any damage to machined surface or reason to protect ??

Thanks

Vibratory media tumbled Alt case....with and without flash. Same results with intakes and valve covers. Media is a 3/8 thick by 3/4 triangular shaped stone, I run it as "wet" as I can with H20 and a light oil/ rust inhibitor. While not needed with aluminum, it helps keep the media wet and lathers up nicely.

If your looking for the original finish and "shine" with some added protection take a freshly blasted part, spray it down with Purple Power (castrol super clean) and then with hot water and an SOS cleaning pad rub the intake untill the rough finish is smoother, but not too much...rinse with water and blow dry. Like new appearance.

They were put into a vibrating tumbler with steel shot- it removes the "green" sand and burnishes the casting sealing the pores and giving it the sheen.

I would sure like proof that NEW Winters Intakes were Tumbled in Steel Shot .........as I "think" Manifolds were placed on a large Diameter steel table and the table rotating inside
an enclosure while metal shot is being hurled at the parts................
