Found an L72 for my Biscayne

I turned bad news into good news. On my way back from Hot August Nights in Reno, the 454 in my Biscayne flattened a cam lobe and ate up a lifter. I limped it home, but probably should have called the hook. Anyway, it gave me a chance to look into the motor, it is a truck block with flat pistons and peanut heads, so rather than fix that motor I decided to look for something better. Friday was my lucky day! On Craigs list I found an L72 that had been pulled from a 66 Corvette so the owner could install a new 427 crate motor. It was a running driving engine, but he wanted something easier to use. It is actually a "CE" 512 block built in 1970 with '68 840 heads, so not sure if it is an old crate motor or a warranty replacement. He gave it up as part payment to the shop that did the engine swap. Compression check showed 200 PSI in every cylinder, inside very clean. Obviously had been well cared for. It has a brand new 3310 Holley on it and the billet HEI distributor that came with the new 427, he wanted to keep his tach drive distributor so gave up the HEI with this motor. I am leaving on vacation for a week, once I get back the installation fun begins.

Talk about making lemonade!

Way to GO !

by the way, a warranty CE & an old CE Crate engine are the same thing.....they all came crated.

If that doesn't work -- you're up a creek ... looks good!

Thanks guys, By the way, the motor came with '66 Vette cast iron exhaust manifolds, 6 quart oil pan and cast aluminum valve covers that I won't be using. All will go on EBay in a couple weeks to offset my purchase price.
