Header clearance
I have just "test fit" the BBC in the 71 Nova and the header is REAL CLOSE but not touching the steering box. Is there an issue with heat at that point and if so what is the best solution? I have noticed there a number of header wraps available and if that is the way to go -- does anyone have a preference?
Thanks -- TAZ |
Re: Header clearance
Power steering or manual ?
With power steering a heat wrap on the pipes closest is a good idea. Although PS fluid & Automatic trans fluid is nearly identical. We all know how hot ATF can get ..... In the pump it may "gurgle" from excess O'2 . Manual....no issue to speak of. |
Re: Header clearance
Tom -- Thanks. Its pwr str ... heat wrap ... any preferences?

Re: Header clearance
Proper BBC frame stands? What kind of headers?

Re: Header clearance
Mark -- BBC frame adapters, correct cross member, engines sits off to the pass side ... Hookers. There is about 1/4 to 3/8 clearance at pwr str sector box.

Re: Header clearance
We have a 68 BB Nova with ceramic coated headers...there doesn't seem to be any issue with the heat and the power steering.

Re: Header clearance
If you have a good 1/4 to 3/8 clearance between the tube and box, I think you'll be all right. Those wraps have been known to rot out header tubes after awhile.
