Using Original Ohio plates on our old rides
 

Regs in Ohio permit use of old plates on our "antique" muscle cars. But, I see that they want you to also to have the original registration. Altho I have my original 1st year registration from VA for my Chevelle, I certainly don't think I'll be able to find an Ohio plate coupled with its original registration. Am I reading the reg correctly. Any experience from fellow Buckeyes?

Think I have it figured out. I tend to read things too literally [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/crazy.gif[/img] ! Reg says you 1st have to register car with historical plates (they wave fee if you indicate you are going to use old plates - in my case 1969). Then you present the &quot;historical registration&quot; (I interpreted that as the ORIGINAL registration) with a copy/ photo of the 1969 plate + a one-time $4.50 and you are all set. Not a bad deal in this day and age. To boot, they only require a rear license plate when you do this ( Ohio normally requires two plates).

I believe that you have to purchase the antique plates and take your year of manufacture plate with you so that they can make a photo copy of it. The antique plate has to stay in the car at all times so that if you are pulled over that you can show the plate to the officer and your registration is for the antique plate.

I am almost positive that you have to run both plates also. I think it is a one time/life time registration fee of $50.00. I am not sure about the $4.00 deal but I will find out here next month when I get the Nova out of hibernation.

One plate is all you need on the car when it is registered as Historic. Buy the historic plates, put them in the trunk, register your YOM plates and put them on the car. You are issued two registration papers one for the historic plates and one for the YOM plates. Neither expire and it's a one time fee. My historic playes have never been out of the wrapper, and I put them on my 68 when it turned 20 years old. Loooong time ago!
