BB Curved Neck Radiators.

I have always thought that the Drivers side tank on a curved neck radiator should have the IO and not IL embossed on the tank according to CRG http://www.camaros.org/coolingsystems.shtml .
I have recently had people emailing me that they have a real curve neck with the IL and OO tanks. The one I’m specifically interested in is dated B. I also spoke with Dave from Heartbeat and he to confirmed that he had seen them both ways and not all that uncommon. Is this true??? Did Harrison make them both ways by means of what ever they had at the time is what they used type thing?

Thanks,

Tom

Forgot to mention this is for a 69 Camaro application.

Can't say for sure, but I think CRG would have noted this oddity if it were true. So, I would say no, only IO would be curved neck IMO.

Yes, that is what the radiator's original application was for (A/C). The COPO just happens to use the same a/c radiator. Whether this radiator was specified by engineering or requested by a dealer (Yenko or Gibb) as part of the package (9560/9561), I am unsure. The A/C application is why the neck is curved, so to clear the compressor and related lines. A 4spd big block with air is probably rarer than a COPO. That is why 4spd curved necks are scarce. Whereas BB a/c auto are relatively easier to find.

Incidentally. The side with the date is the RIGHT side, the OO tank for manual, which by your original post, I assume is what you want, and that tank is the same whether a 3 core (straight neck) or 4 core (curved). That is why the code is different on the LH side as one is 4 core, curved =IO and one is 3 core, straight= IL. Those who responded with IL tanks where probably trying to let you know their radiator had the One thing you had specified- A B dated tank and that gets you 1/2 way to what you want. You just have to find an IO tank and you can make the correct part.
Also, some times line shortages required using next biggest radiator. My BB car has a curved neck that is original to car. My experience (at least early BB cars) have rad. dates about 3 months earlier than build. Mine is a Sept date. Dec 68 car.

Do you think there is any truth to what Dave from Heartbeat was saying or is this just a cover-up for a mistake that they are offering? http://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/s...MT-4C-CN-1969/

Re: BB Curved Neck Radiators.

Well, you could ask the guy that wrote the article.
IL was used in 68 4-cores. Someone has modified them if they are curved-necked.

> For 1968 big blocks, AC was an available option for the L35 and L34 engines and increased the radiator from a 3 core to
> a 4 core (2.70 inches thick). Note that this was a straight neck radiator, unlike the 69 curved neck radiators that used
> the same broadcast code.
