Original paint '66 427 Cobra @ show today

It was an overcast day in Seattle, but I took my '66 GT to the Mustang Roundup in Bellevue today. In the row for Cobras, which had a few kit cars in it, I spotted a slightly tattered, red wide-hip roadster with Sunburst wheels and undercar exhaust. Rolling on some '75-era first generation BFG Radial TA's. Hmmmmm. Sure enough, an untouched time capsule that I'd never seen before. I was able to chat up the amiable (other than regular loud requests to PLEASE DON'T TOUCH IT! ITS ALUMIUNUM) owner and get the story. He bought it as a 19 or 20 year old in 1969...and has had it ever since. You will see the interior has some wear from this big guy getting in and out of this little car, but the leather is great and it is breathtakingly honest. It probably hasn't been detailed since the 80's. He likes to keep a low profile, but his friend convinced him to bring it out for a few hours. I'm so glad he did. 427 4V. For those of you grabbing your Shelby Registry, its #3340, and he is Mr. Anonymous:)

----Great Cobra!!! Really late as well. Only 20 or so from the end. We had 3360 at Classic Motors back in the early 80s. Nobody knew it existed as the owner bought it in the USA and then shipped it to England immediately. Then he put it in storage after just a few hundred miles. It was a twin to this Cobra. We ended up painting that car as the paint had taken a hit in that damp environment. Matter of fact Bill, the guy who had the 67 427/425 SS Impala did the paint job at "Royal Coach". How many 427 Cobras have basicly never been touched. Only a couple, Im guessing!.....Bill S

So nice, a friend of my fathers and well known shelby collector has an original paint Cobra which was dented during shipment for which he has documentation via a letter or a check ($300 sticks in my head) from shelby for the damages. For some reason I don't think the check was ever cashed. Guy lives in NC and has quite a few low mile early shelbys.

That is killer. Kudos to the owner for keeping the car all these years and turning down offers that probably sounded tempting at the time.... Is this a $1M car now?

----Its possible, Des. If the license plate holes are consistent with the 6 screws in the plate then I would say no as there were only US plate style holes in the trunk of the car we brought back from England. As well as I can remember that, I cant seem to remember weather the car had starburst style wheels or not, but it probably would have. Can someone educate me on wide hip Cobras? The Cobra Des has pictured appears to be normal but 3340 pictured earlier is a wide hip car, and 3360 had normal rear flares, I think....Bill S
