Wanted: 1969 Chevelle survivor parts

I'd like to replace the window felts in my 1969 Chevelle SS. Since the car already has a lot of patina, I'd like to find used original window felts rather than go reproduction or spring for NOS. Hopefully someone has carefully removed and set aside some decent used window felts on a car they've restored.

I'm also looking for a used black vinyl top off a 1968-1969 Chevelle hardtop. I don't know if it's possible to carefully remove and re-use a vinyl top but I'd like to give it a try. A new vinyl top would just stick out like a sore thumb on this car.

Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated.

Helmut,

It will be virtually impossible to remove 45 year old VT... it will rip and tear away. That glue was meant to work not to be re-used.

You could however make a new VT look used, weathered and old. That is what I would do.

put a new top on it and scrub it with comet....and a stiff brush..it will knock ths heen off and look dull...toothpaste works too..but labor intensive..

if you can find bon-ami it works better than comet

That's what I thought, but a buddy of mine pulled the old vinyl top off his 1971 Chevelle in one piece... and he had no intentions of preserving it. It probably depends on the condition of the vinyl top and how patient you are when removing it. Of course, I'm not suggesting that you're not a patient guy... you've waited for your steak dinner for several years!

I don't like the spongy-ness of the new vinyl tops, and the seams below the rear window need to be moved to the correct position... but if you say it can be done, I'm all ears.

I think it looks really cool as it is.

I am pretty critical of new VT's as well, I see the incorrect positioning of the seam from miles away. (And don't get me started about the puffy ones):-(

As always a few more pictures would be great.
