Vintage Mallory Adj. Proportional RPM Limiter

Can somebody help me out on something? I have, somewhere packed away, a Mallory unit similar to this one in the provided pic, but the dial bezel isn't red, it's silver with a blueish color banner that has MALLORY at the top of the bezel over the dial knob. Anybody familiar with this piece? I'm pretty sure it's vintage but don't know a lot about it...how old and what model. It is very similar to what's in the pic. From the looks of it it had a rough life. I can't remember where I packed it or I would provide a pic. Anybody have any vintage Mallory parts books to determine what I have? At one time it did work but since I removed it 20 or so years ago I'm not sure. Is it even worth having it looked at? Other info I found on line for part number is #642, 643, and 644 but without a pic IDK.

The red seems to come after the blue ones historically. I think the reds were showing up around the early 1970's. What is the dom?

I believe blue are older than red and most have a date (see below). Some have both colors. These are available on eBay and nos are not too pricey.

Looks similar but I'm not sure it's the same model, the box is painted black, a few times if my memory is right, and I can't read or can tell if there is a serial plate on it. I still haven't found it though in any case.

Does anyone know if the Blue ones are for CD / Capacitive Discharge ignitions (transistor ignition) and the Red ones for Conventional Points ignition ?
The Mallory box black coils are tagged this way... Blue for CD/TI ignition.
Red for Points ignition.

Re: Vintage Mallory Adj. Proportional RPM Limiter

Dave,
Thanks..that info cleared up a lot of question marks on compatible components.
I'm using a HP 310 "4 Cam" double life REV Pol with the 2 Pc. 4001 cap....
9 ML-187A petronix 4 cam phase II conversion W/O rev limiter.
Mallory Super CD , Mallory Electronic (TI) Blue tag Coil & K66 DELCO REMY Voltage Regulator.
Now I know which rev limiter to use
( if I use one)
Regards,
Tom

If you need more photo's on anything in the two catalogues...just ask. Or if anyone needs more info.

Hello everyone. Revisiting my original post from 10 years ago, wow!!!

I Finally found a Mallory Rev Limiter Control #28770 I've been searching for. I couldn't find the one I started this post with though. I've moved out recently and never found the one I put away. Currently I'm looking for install instructions and can't seem to get a handle on where to look. Can someone help me out?

If anyone knows about this control unit I have a few questions. Thank you.

Hope everyone had a safe Memorial Day.

I didn’t see the #28770 but it may be on this page w/ a bunch of Mallory user manuals…
