Driveshaft advice on my 69 Z

Right now my 69 Z has a 67 or 68 driveshaft in it.
I suspect a warranty replacement, because of the following:

1. My rear axle is a warranty replacement.
2. Pinion snubber is original and has a small chunk missing. Looks like something hit it.
3. Replaced my gas tank recently and checked the date code on the old one. Jan of 70.

So, I am guessing someone was having some serious fun when this car was new and grenaded the rear bad enought to take out the driveshaft, gas tank and cause damage to the snubber.

But I digress (just like doing detective work, but who really knows?)

My driveshaft needs re-tubed. Because it is a 68, it is a litte too long, but the trunions are the same, so I can use these. There are guys locally who can do this for me. My first question: I know the u-joints were out of phase on the 69 Z. See discussion, along with links to more discussions:

Anyone know EXACTLY how many degrees out of phase? I have heard 20 degrees, 30 degrees, and everything in between.

Second question. Would I be better off just having it re-tubed with the yokes in phase? I don't believe anyone has ever come up with an explanation for why GM did the 69 Camaro out of phase, and no car since.

Opinions?

Thanks.

Hey Lynn. I thought it was 30 degrees. I had a driveshaft that was made locally in my 69 Z that had the yokes in phase but I traded Todd (6781Camaro) in Florida for a 69 driveshaft. I'm thinking CRG might not have all the info yet to say for sure why they are out of phase. I always thought all driveshafts were out of phase, but I think in phase is the norm. Definately a curiosity though.

Well, I dropped it off this morning. Went ahead and told them to put them in phase. The guy was aware of the out of phase 69, but did not know the exact specs.

No one seemed to have the EXACT info on how many degrees out of phase. I am fine with having them in phase.

I've had many MoPars, GMs, and a few Fords ... in fact, the drive shaft was in phase on my 69" Indy Pace Car w/4 gear. All the others were in phase also -- Just sayin' The TAZ
