1969 Allen Green Camaro Runway Friction Test ZL1?

I had lunch today with some retired airline pilots. One gent brought in a 1970 Airline Pilot's Association (ALPA) magazine. In it there was this photo of an Allen Green 1969 Camaro (maybe ZL1?) towing a device to measure runway friction in Seattle. This was only a photo with a Pan Am 747 in the back ground and the caption below; no other info. This is right around the time the 747 was getting release for service.

I think you'll enjoy this tidbit if this hadn't been discussed already.

Phil

I'll guarantee I have a lot of time in that Piedmont 737/200 on the cover. Can't read the N#. In my mind, the greatest airline in the history of earth.

SS/CA so it was an automatic? Cool if it was an alloy 427.

Last time I saw that car was at Super Chevy Pomona '98. Reggie had his man Chip selling it along with a F.Grn/Grn 4sp. Copo. Zl1 was priced at $75k, and the Copo at 25K. No mention whatsoever of being rebodied.

So was that car originally a ZL-1? I'm fascinated by the subject on this one. I've heard of 69 L78 el Caminos being used as chase vehicles for U2 aircraft on landing to stabilize the wings, it was a bicycle landing gear plane. Anyway, thought it neat to see this car in service in 1970 all painted up with an interesting mission. We use friction readings to this day to calculate takeoff and landing performance of large planes.

SS/CA would probably mean it was a 427 car and not a 396 car. Aluminum motor car would maybe make it a SS/BA car if it is NHRA weight. I think Chuck ran B/MP with his Zl-1 at one point. Great car in that paint scheme.
