Chevelle exhaust tip part numbers
All:
I bought a set of nos chevelle exhaust tips in boxes dated 7-69. To my surprise there were no numbers stamped on the tips themselves. I have no doubt that the tips are original. When did GM begin stamping the PN into the tips? Would these be correct for a July build 1969 Chevelle? Thanks Tony |
Re: Chevelle exhaust tip part numbers
Tony,
Those are absolutely correct for a July built 69 Chevelle , or any 70-72 SS Big Block car. Chevrolet did not stamp any part numbers into these tips until sometime around 1974 on the service pieces. Most likely a vendor change supplying the part to GM. They are different in other ways as well making them very valuable to anybody trying to do a concours correct restoration. Nice score! Chris |

I had my 1970 LS5 judged 2 years ago and was told my exhaust tips were not original because they had no part number stamps. I replaced them with GM tips I bought back in 1976 that have part numbers. Glad I kept the originals. Good info, thanks. George.
