12 bolt axles
I want to replace the stock axles in my 69 Camaro. I want to street/strip the car, but don't want to lose the original 12 bolt. The internals of the rear end have been replaced except for the stock axles. I looked at Superior, Strange, Currie, and Mark Williams. Everything I read said to stay away from Moser. Does anyone have any success stories for replacement axles?

Re: 12 bolt axles
I run Moser axles in my 67 Nova SS with a 4-speed and have no issues. I do not run at the track or have slicks so that may be different situation.

Re: 12 bolt axles
I've been running the Moser's in my 68 for about 10 years. I'm running a 327 W/4000 stall,4:10 rear, Wide-treads or slicks...no issues.I went thru a hand full of rears prior to this combo, I got away from Richmond gears and GM axles and all is well.

Re: 12 bolt axles
I put Superior axles + Eaton carrier in our Camaro probably 5-6 years or more ago...

Re: 12 bolt axles
Running Mosers for 10+ years, with and with out slicks. Some axles are to hard for street use but Mosers are good.

Re: 12 bolt axles
Mosers in my 69 COPO, for around 6 years. Running as good as 11.50's with polyglas. No issues

Re: 12 bolt axles
If you placed all of them on a bench and you could examine them all in detail, the decision would be incredibly easy.
Absolutely the very nicest pieces you will get are from Mark Williams. Every axle is built for the application and if you specify axles for street use, M-W will accommodate you with a specific axle build. Simply the finest axles available today and well worth the small premium M-W charges. I would not use anything else. Wayne |
Re: 12 bolt axles
I called and spoke to every axle company I could. Strange said they wouldn't run their c-clip axles in anything with potential of running mid 11's. Currie and Mark Williams do not make c-clip axles, but they both reccomended that I go to Tom's Axles. I spoke with Tom's Axles and was pleased with what I heard in my conversation. I ordered a set through them.

As you all probably know, there is a lot of difference in shock loading on an axle depending upon whether you have an automatic transmission or a clutch car. With an 11.50 automatic car you could darned near get away with factory axles, at least for a short time. |
