Re: WTB LS6 open element base
Chuck,
I thought a non-cowl induction LS-6 could either come with a dual snorkle or an open (907) style air cleaner especially if it came out of the Arlington Texas plant. This was documented by the 2 digit code on the build sheet from Arlington cars I have seen. I don't remember the actual codes. Comments? Bill |

Bill,
You are correct Dan |
Re: WTB LS6 open element base
Any of these were possible on an LS-6,from almost all their assembly plants,as well as any 1970 Super Sport Chevelle/Elcamino,shown in box #55 on their build sheet.
Code DG (Working Cowl Induction~part#6485235) Code SS (Open Element~part#6485239) Code CO (Dual Snorkle~part#6485257)~Lmtd.time on solid lifter only. |

Here are the 3 variations from unrestored LS6 cars.
They sure did have an open element air cleaner system. |
Re: WTB LS6 open element base
Can you post a picture of one? I have a base that came directley from AC stamping, Center Road plant, Flint Michigan. A friend of mine worked there in the 70's. He brought this to me,right from work. He told me it was for an LS6 car, but I don't know. There are no stamped numbers in it. It's never been painted, so it has some spots of surface rust from being handled.

Re: WTB LS6 open element base
This is the base I'm needing. The tube extends about 1 1/4" and is directed more to the firewall than to the valve cover.

Re: WTB LS6 open element base
Well crap. The picture sure looks identical to the one that I have, except there isn't a tube in mine. It was never installed!

Re: WTB LS6 open element base
Tony, unfortunately without the tube it's just another base, do you want to sell the base? I have the tube in mine, but someone modified the base so I can't use it without a lot of repair.
