69 Chevelle with Camaro rear spoiler?
 

did they REALLY do that? Add the Camaro spoiler to the lid of a Chevelle????

I have seen some weird spoilers on cars over the years but this one ranks up there with the 55 Chevy I remember in 1971 that someone made a Superbird rear spoiler on the trunk lid out of plywood ...

This was done by the original owner from Minnesota who also added the Mopar 6 pack hood scoop and Cragers. Honestly, back in the 70's we thought these both looked awesome along with his Scorpion intake.

that spoiler looks WAY out of place and out of proportion IMHO, the gaps, the outer edges rubbing on the quarters ... to each their own though ...

I am with you Jim. We would have gotten laughed out of the Hot Shops if we came in with that stuff on our cars. Besides the Yenko cars that we ran across back then were junk in our opinions and did not run that well. That was dumb on our part though. Was pretty tough to beat a &quot;good running&quot; L78 camaro or nova in those days.

maybe the guys with the L78's kept up with their cars, tuning, etc

It was what the original owner did with his car on day 2 because HE thought it was cool ...

cow catchers were all the rage in the late 70's ... even the Yenko Camaro's had them, same with the Cheverra from Herb Adams

I've had two L78 powered cars and the COPO. Combined, about 250K miles. I've ridden in a few other L78 and a couple other COPO Chevelles. None of the L78s that I have had experience with were going to be even a remote threat to the 427. I guess I should stop talking and get the old Chevelle back together. It would be the perfect comparison. Might even be a good magazine article in there somewhere. [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/wink.gif[/img] As for the spoiler, I don't think so. The L78's were really hard to beat around this area. They still pretty much dominate the A+B stock classes over the 427 cars. At least around here. The LS6 cars were pretty fast with some carb, distributor work along with headers and a set of 88's. If I remember correctly the good running ones had air bags too. Of the 2 Yenko camaros I knew of and saw run they were ok running cars. One Zl-1 in Bridgeport was pretty slow but we all know why that was. I just like the L78 motor. You can darn near run it like a 302.
