69 ZL-1 motor (opinions)
I was supposed to get a 69 ZL-1 motor last weekend, but shipment got delayed for 2-3 weeks. Any opinions welcome if something looks odd on the block surfaces as I bought this without personally inspecting it.
I get the long block, less blower intake. I get a ZL-1 intake that has been with the motor. I am sitting here biting my nails.... http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/o...ck69/photo.jpg http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/o...69/photo-1.jpg http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/o...69/photo-2.jpg http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/o...69/photo-3.jpg http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/o...69/photo-4.jpg http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/o...69/photo-5.jpg |

Looks like a later cast block with the press in freeze plugs. Also looks stroked to at least 454 with the extra balancing weight added to the crank flange.

Jason</div></div> It has a 'hank the crank' in it if that means anything on the external weights, I thought it was a 427 stroke crank, either way its ok, I get the paperwork on the rebuild when it gets here. It also has some type of head bolt that goes deeper into the block. A lot of money was spent on the heads too. It was never fired. 11:1. |

I hope it makes it to you as described. 11:1 seems pretty intense to have a blower manifold mounted on it. How did you find the engine?

Jason</div></div> The guy I bought it from was just thinking about the blower but stopped going forward with the idea. I stumbled upon it by accident. |

Might be O.k. on alcohol..... not O.k. on gas. |
Re: 69 ZL-1 motor (opinions)
It now makes sense he stopped building it, as he told me he feared detroying this expensive motor under continuous constant load (i.e. boat, but in a car, its a burst load). Never talked alchol or gas though.
Its been sitting this way rebuilt since 89, and he got it way before then out of a 69 camaro drag car north of denver. Looks like its an over the counter block. |
