1969 Camaro X-11 code...Big Block?

A friend has a 1969 Camaro with and X-11 code on the cowl tag.
...Could this car have come from the factory with a big block motor? ( He believes it is an SS396 car )

A COPO with style trim [or RS] would have an X11 tag. It could not be an SS with 396 engine.

Re: 1969 Camaro X-11 code...Big Block?

SS396 would have been X66, or X22

X11 was non 396/ non Z28/ but included SS350 with Bright trim.

and X11 or X44 could be a COPO 427

X code's here http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#VINvsStyle

1969 Norwood Camaro Fisher Code Interpretation with Z21 (or Z22) without Z21 (or Z22)
----------------------- ----------------------
X11* non-SS396, non-Z28, X44* non-SS, non-Z28
includes SS350 X55 SS350
X22 SS396 X66 SS396
X33 Z28 X77 Z28

* COPO Camaros were an exception, as most COPOs
were built out of bodies coded with X11 or X44.
Some early Yenko COPOs had X66-coded bodies.

Additional 1969 Norwood Fisher codes that were
used instead of the X-codes include:
Z10 - Indy Pace Car replica coupe
Z11 - Indy Pace Car replica convertible

Additional 1969 Norwood Fisher codes that could be
combined with the X-codes include:
D80 - signifies the car was equipped with D80
spoilers, but the code was not always used.
A - signifies the car was equipped with power
windows, but the code was not always used.

If it had a bigblock it should have the bigblock heater cover. Water inlets in the middle of the cover. Small blocks had the inlets in the firewall just next to the heater cover.

If the rear is BE coded, and original to the car; ding, ding, ding!
