Stick Shift Nova Column Swap?

Hi folks. I've been vaccilating on swapping a four speed into my Nova. This week at least, I'm really thinking about the fun factor. And for me at least, three pedals does get the job done None-the-less in another thread, I asked the question part way through: Which factory floor shift steering columns interchange with a 1969-1972+ Nova? One of the folks thought a '70 and up Camaro stick shift column is the same. Can someone confirm this?

My other option is to take the column apart and swap out pieces. I've worked on a couple of late model GM tilt columns in the past and pretty much came to the conclusion it takes a masochist to work on 'em I suspect that the early non-tilts are a wee bit simpler. I'm probably not using the reverse lock out setup (not sure if it can be accomplished anyway with a Hurst shifter & headers). Any thoughts on simply swapping parts in my minty column shift auto column to make a stick shift piece?

Thanks again guys. This is one of the few places I know of where experience and no bull straight talk and advice rules. Thanks in advance!

Further to the above, my research shows a '69 Camaro column should be the same (which makes sense). Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks.

70 camaro is not the same. The 68 nova has the key in the dash. Only year. You are right about rebuilding one. I did my camaro. I spent hours trying to get the key to work. it worked and turned about ten times then locked up. Screw it. I gave up.
I would find the whole unit and pay whatever they want for and be happy. JMO

Man I hear ya' Kim I [eventually] managed to get the couple I did to work properly, but geez......it was an agonizing process

And Mr. Schonyenko2, you have mail!

Thanks folks.

I've been spolied with my Pop- Plowman being a GM mechanic for 30 years at a Cadillac dealer. He makes workign on those columns look easy. He's helpped a lot of street-rodders make those 1980's Cad colums work in their cars.

I can confirm I pulled a column out of a 69 Camaro- 4-speed car and it now resides in my sister's 69 Nova.
