Value of a 69 RS/SS

I talked to a friend of a friend today that was doing work (mechanical) on a 69 RS/SS and the customer left if sit there in garage for three years....well he wants his money and she does not want the car any longer so he is going to get the car for very short money and wants to roll out of it fairly quickly. Car is orange with black strips, starting to bubble a bit in several spots but no horrible rust issues yet. Interior is black/buckets, believe it is an automatic and is in very good shape. She supposedly paid $17k for the car about five years ago and the mechanic claims it is a real ss/rs but does not think the motor is original. I know it is hard to say without a pic but I have seen the car and would put it on par with a respectable driver but in need of some body and probably a bit of mechanical work right now but certainly in need of paint at some point.
what would be a range on something like this that you would see as fair and also, how does one determine the trim/model RS/SS; trim tag....what do I need to see for codes?

Thanks in advance.
Scott

thank you, that is good info.
Now I guess the question is how much? if one assumes it is a legit RS/SS NOM, strong B- car, week paint, solid interior, what is a good price to consider? My thought is the car can be had for $9k, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Look at it hard on the lift and see whats good and what needs work sheetmetal wise. Start checking all your codes, check out whats right and whats wrong too then build a map it all out on paper.

Any 69 Camaro that runs and is reasonably intact is worth 9K...and I don't even know what I'm talking about https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

9K should be a no brainer if it is not full of rust or bondo. Really look the floors over underneath the car and look in the trunk real well.

Re: Value of a 69 RS/SS

I will check it out later this week, it is one of those situations that the guy really does not want the car around anymore and has a number in mind that he wants to see on it. I believe he is going to try to get the car (title) for $5k as the current owner has some personal issues. He is within his rights to take the car now for storage costs but does not want to do that to her. He basically told me he will get rid of it quick and would prefer that than being married to it trying to get top money. I will try to get a pic or two of it later this week and post it with some of the detail. I appreciate the help, I have a second gen but have not spent much time educating myself on the variations/decoding of the first gens.

[/ QUOTE ]Don't have to check too many codes. People pay that kind of money for cowl tag and windshield area. And it runs. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
