Ahhh...the place that I broke my nose...twice!
 

When I was younger (okay, much younger...and somewhat more foolish https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif) the Wedge in Newport Beach, Ca. is where I used to hang out...and body surf and boogie board as well.

When the swell height and direction are just right...the wave enegry rebounds off the breakwater and the joins up with the next incoming wave and "Wedges" together (hence the name)...sometimes doubling in height in a second or two.

If that's not enough...the waves break in about 3 1/2 feet of water...usually less than 200 feet from the beach https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

BTW, this is the beach break where "Marion Michael Morrison" screwed up his athletic career...and went into acting...to become John Wayne. He still loved the area so much...that he lived just over a block away until he passed away.

Then there's Mavericks and Cortes Banks where the previously largest wave ever ridden (66 feet estimated) was video taped...The wierd part is that Cortes Banks is 100 MILES off of the California coast https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

and the pucker factor of a 20 foot wave will make you stop and think
