Trim resto..input wanted
Hi everyone, I would like some opinions/input on stainless and aluminum trim restoration....Currently I am restoring alum/SS trim on a limited basis as I work a full time job, but with customer demand I am teetering on the verge of going full time into polishing/buffing.
As I am not real familliar with what trim pieces are reproduced for GM products and if there is a demand, regardless how significant, for this service to retain OEM parts. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. *Mods* Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, your feedback is also appreciated. Thanks! Mark |

Do you have local access to good source or BRITE DIP anodizing after you polish misc G.M. trim parts ???
How do you charge for window trim for example.......????? Do you only polish or also remove dents, dings ??? Thanks, |
Re: Trim resto..input wanted
Yes, dents/dings removed. I have a couple of sources for anodizing. More information on pricing will be coming if/when I am doing this full time. Dont want to appear to be soliciting at this point, just trying to get a feel for potential demand. Thank you for your reply!

Mark,
Iw ould think the difficulty would be with transportation and avoiding damage after you have finished restoration. I know that a number of the reproduction parts seem to be a lighter gauge of metal and much more susceptibla to damage while installing, so at least for me restored original stainless is worth more than the repops. |
Re: Trim resto..input wanted
my suggestion would be to pillage any remaining scrap yards and build up an inventory, you could sell and or repair. I would be reluctant to rely on this one service as income, are there any other services you'll be marketing. In house anodizing will keep your quality, cost, and turnaround in line. I dont know what that will involve.
The aftermarket will continue to offer more and more parts and for a large # or restorations this will be sufficient. The high end cars and discriminating owners will your customers. |
