The Longest Day...

79 years ago today the largest and greatest military event in history began on the shores of Normandy in France...D-Day. This was the long awaited allied invasion of fortress Europe and the creation of a second front against Hitler's tyranny.
Most of those who served on that day have passed on to their keeper...but the memory of their heroism lives on. Lest we forget :flag::flag::flag: |

My local newspaper had an article in it today about some American veterans that participated in the Normandy landings returning there earlier this week to take in the activities. They are all in their late 90's now. It was heartwarming to read about how the French people still thank and honor these veterans today.

My great uncle Walt died there, he was a medic. There is a street in Normandy named after him.
