72 Nova - interesting option
 

Stopped by a friend’s house today & he had a ‘72 Nova sitting outside. Nothing really special - just a 307 column shift automatic. Bench seat with rubber mats. It did have this interesting fold back sunroof option. I’ve never seen it before, but I’m no Nova expert.

I would guess dealer or aftermarket installed.

He said that they only made 168 with that option. He’s selling it if anyone is interested. Not sure where it’s listed for auction. If anyone has interest - PM me and I’ll put you in contact with the owner.

My wife ordered a new 73 Nova and the only 2 options she didn't check off were a/c and this roof. Very few were made in each year.

I have production numbers on these but I'm visiting my dad at the moment. Somehow I don't believe the number 168.

I saw a camaro with one a few years back.

Back in 1985 a guy at my high school had a 1972 Nova vinyl top car with this top. It was the only one I had ever seen at that time and I have not seen one in person since. It was orange with black top and black interior. Beautiful car.

I've had three of those cars they are all west coast built cars. The tops were made by an English company and installed at the factory. He has the rarest color but there were good number made.

Wow - can’t believe the info that this group has access to! So, the 168 figure that my buddy quoted was approx the number of blue cars (164) with that option.

I knew a guy who had one ordered from the factory. Not many made for sure.

Option was produced in 1973 too, and I think production was around half at 3000+.
