Hi Bruce-

Here's what I know so far.

Stephen (the original owner) was in Vietnam when the new 70 Z/28 Camaro came out and told his buddy’s if he makes it out alive he was going to buy one!

So when he got home the first thing he did was go down to Hubbard Chevrolet in Salem Oregon and buy one, in Daytona Yellow. He cruised the car around for awhile as is-then decided to turn it into a Street Freak show car.

In 1974 he had it painted as it is now and showed it the Portland roadster show with a super charged LT1. Soon after that show he took the car apart to do further mods and never got it back together. The Camaro sat until 2014, then was sold to the second owner. I bought it from the 2nd owner who never did anything with it.

Unfortunately the original drive train is missing so I picked up a 396 from a 70 Chevelle and a 4 speed and put it back together. Car is in amazing rust free condition and the paint looks like it was applied yesterday!

Thanks Bruce for sharing this awesome survivor!

By the way-It looks like it’s going to be awhile before I can get the Vintage pictures. The original owner is 73 and not tech savvy, so I’m going to plan a road trip in the spring to get them.

All it needs is some wire wheels like in the picture , somehow they just suit it . Very cool indeed .

markinnaples 11-17-2020 08:14 PM

I've seen this car on FB before and IT'S SPECTACULAR!!!

I'm a massive 70's style/Day 2 guy and that Camaro is beyond cool. So glad it's still in excellent condition and props to the new owner for keeping her bad azz. I'd love to see it in person someday.

Awesome.

I have sat in that car when the previous owners had it. It is amazing. I think the stock steering wheel may have been in it then as the green one looks out of place to me. For me personally, I think a gold metal flake wheel would compliment the looks a little better but overall the car has a great vibe to it.

Thanks Jon! Agreed I already changed it!

Russel is the KING of day2! For those who don't follow him on Instagram, you're missing out.

Congrats on a killer car.

Totally agree with that. It's a wicked car Russell and it couldn't have landed with a better steward of all things Day 2. I'm excited for you to make a road trip up to see the original owner, and can't wait to see what you come away with there?

Congrats again on a very special car. Diggin' the stance too!

Russel is a great guy. He is a man of his word and a real class act. This awesome Z couldn't belong to a better curator of things Day 2!

I would imagine that car bringing a lot of attention while driving it around...it would be fun to see peoples reaction...its screams the 70's, and I love it! I would love to take that car through crowded parking lots with lots of people like a Wal-Mart, Lowes etc, put it in neutral and rev it it while coasting at about 5 miles per hour, if that wouldn't make you smile of laugh I don't know what would! Kick Ass!

It looks amazing back in the day. I wonder how it looks like now. I'm sure it still looks great.

Gotta love those chrome inner fenders on a 2nd Gen (at least I used too!)!

These days getting that stuff off costs more than putting it on.

SuperNovaSS 12-14-2020 01:00 AM

AWESOME!

Notice the contrast of this car compared to the boring econoboxes in the back ground of the street pictures. No comparison. Most of todays commuter cars just have no appeal.

Awesome photos of the green 70 Z28!

This car reminds me of my 1st car (70 Camaro SS) with all the mods and chrome I put on it back in the early 80's.. 35-40 years ago already! Sold it after having it for 20 years. That car was such a blast to drive!
This is 1st time I've ever posted pics of it on the internet.

markinnaples 12-17-2020 12:24 PM

Great Camaro Scott. Any idea what happened to it, and where it is now?

mr.4speed 12-17-2020 12:51 PM

wow! all the 80's goodies thanks for sharing! would love to see more

MN 70L78 12-17-2020 02:52 PM

No idea what happened or where it is currently. Last time I heard anything was close to 20 years ago now. I do know that the small block was pulled out and replaced with a big block at some point.

With that Crower mechanical fuel injection my car would draw a crowd where ever it went! It sounded awesome and throttle response was unbelievable.

I don't really want to hi-jack this thread with my car... I'll have to dig out more photos and scan them.
