1966 Chevelle interior repaint

A couple weeks ago, I brought the Chevelle into the shop and sanded off 3 layers of paint to get at the sand scratch marks in the primer from the first paint job. Second job was a hurry-up-scuff-and shoot affair. Wish he had just left it alone. This has turned into a LOT of work to correct.

Seems quite glossy for what was supposed to be a satin paint. Guy at the paint store yesterday said the painter must have put too much activator and/or reducer in to make it that glossy. Oh well, most of it came off anyway.

First painter thought there was a cover that went over the A pillar and didn't paint it at all. When I went to look at the car, I mentioned that and he did a hurry up sand and shoot and left the sand marks in the primer. Gone now.

The weather was predicted to be cooperative today with mild temps and lower humidity than we've had in a while. I was in the shop at 5 am taping, papering and covering the car with plastic. I had this big idea I would be shooting by noon....13 HOURS later, I backed the car out in the driveway and shot the primer/sealer on.

75 degrees, wind at 4 mph and humidity at 50%...perfect....other than the cottonwood seeds floating around and a few curious bugs that never left where they landed.
Gotta say, it turned out quite nice. I use SPI epoxy primer and that stuff makes an amateur look good. I had reduced it down 50% to get it to go thru my new DeVilbis touch up gun with 1.0 tip, so sprayed the first 2 coats quick and light. Let it flash for 10 minutes and then layed it on thick. This paint holds it's position very well, even on vertical surfaces, but self levels and looks smooth when set.

Has as a slight texture, but NO MORE sanding marks. Hoping tomorrow allows me to get the color on. Predicted to be in the mid 80's with more humidity. Hoping the weather people are wrong about that...

First painter couldn't be bothered with the Argent Silver on the front valance. With all the bitching I do about pics of cars with this panel body color, I figured I better not show up with mine in-correct... I have the Jeff Helms developed Argent here too.

Is this the car that you're supposed to be bringing to SCR? Better get busy!

Yes, Freddie, this is the car you've been hearing about for over a year. I'm coming down on Wednesday this time, so I'm not a zombie on Thursday for the BBQ after a 15 hr drive. I will bring the window sweeps and door panels with to install on Thursday. The interior won't be done, but it WILL have all the glass in it...

That's great. See you in Bowling Green.

All glass, except rear. Waiting for the local NAPA to get a roll of 1/4" windo-weld in. Supposed to be in at 12:30.

Well, I'm almost down to the wire to get ready for SCR, so I worked on putting more parts on the car this weekend.
I had been picking up these parts over several years when I was working, which is great, because I couldn't afford this stuff at this time.

Sorry about the sideways pic. Took these with my phone instead of the camera...

Swapped out the Torker 2 and Edelbrock for a C396 and Demon 850. Still need to get the pcv and brake booster hoses routed. Of course, it's all different and I need fittings and more hose.
