1966 Chevelle Washer Pump Issues

Need someone a lot smarter than me to solve this issue......LOL.....On my 66 Chevelle, I had a situation where as soon as I pushed the windshield washer button....the pump turned on and squirted fluid......then it wouldn't shut off and continued to pump as long as the wipers were on........shut the wipers off and the pump shut off also........wait a little while and turn the wipers on and the pump started squirting ..........Hummmm!!!!..........I order a new Delco replacement pump and the same exact situation.......So.....I disconnected the wire plug to the pump and they still squirted.............Anybody been down this road or have a solution ???????

Thanks in Advance

Ken

The washer button on the switch could be stuck in. As long as that button is pushed the wiper motor runs.

I unplugged the wires to the pump and it still continued pumping.......

You still have to have power to the pump. Did you unplug the switch. The switch is a ground the power is on the motor all the time.

I unplugged the wires that energize the coil inside the pump assy..........The pump as I see it is driven by the cam from the wiper motor.......and I assume the coil mechanism engages the mechanical linkage for the pump operation......It seems that something is not right in that area......

Its been many years sense I had worked on one. The washer is driven by the x cam that turns and the white plastic slotted piece slides up and down. Maybe that piece is stuck.

Nope.....With the wipers on the cam is moving the pump arm up and down..........Gonna go crazy here soon ......LOL
