1968/69 Firewall Pad Non A/C

I am looking into making an original style firewall pad for my 68 and would like to find a template as I've found a source for the jute material. Please pm me or reply here I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Darrell

The only place I remember seeing anything regarding a 68 dash mat was on Chick's restoration thread where there was more than one post regarding it.

I used a Quiet Ride Solutions firewall insulation pad for my 67. Fit was pretty darn nice...

Yep James, I’ve looked that thread over many times. My hope is to find an original to make a template or to purchase an original.

Thanks. I’ve looked at Quiet Ride and although they are really nice looking they just aren’t exactly like originals so that is why I’m on the hunt.

Thanks for the replies.

How do you plan to reproduce the black backing material. That is a unique product.

Good question.. I THINK I can build up enough rubber undercoating on top of the padding to make it look right. This may be a flop but I’m gonna give it a try regardless. I’d much rather buy an original but that’s becoming difficult to find in mine my price range.

Interested in the details on the undercoating process. Do you have a link?

I understand. My original one was in decent shape until I removed it, it started disintegrating... I wanted to keep it at as well but had not real chance at that after removal. CA car with only 54k miles

Keep us posted on your progress, the wins and the fails. This is good initiative. available repro firewall pads aren't great and differ significantly from factory originals.
