BJCHEV396 10-31-2022 08:22 PM

Fantastic driving and it was sweet to see Ross bump Hamlin out of the final four!!

Mr70 10-31-2022 09:22 PM

Big deal, drivers do that here on the Eisenhower expressway every morning, noon & night. :)

napa68 10-31-2022 09:25 PM

I can see the post race interview now...

Interviewer: "What happened Ross?"

Ross: "Well the gas pedal done got stuck to the floor."

Interviewer: "How did you fix it?"

Ross: "I done took my foot off the pedal when I was done racin' and it weren't stuck no more."

You're right, Rick, he must have learned that move on the Eisenhower...put 'er on the wall and go like hell...

SS427 11-01-2022 02:00 AM

I am betting NASCAR outlaws that move soon. Brilliant move however.

carnut4life 11-01-2022 05:31 AM

Wow, that was an awesome move and very ballsy! I'm betting Rick is right though and NASCAR will ban it somehow so it doesn't happen on the last lap every week going forward.

JRSully 11-01-2022 11:33 AM

If it gets more people to watch Nascar, they probably won't ban it. Imagine that move at Daytona

Too Many Projects 11-01-2022 12:49 PM

The you tube vid from different angles really shows how far he went on the wall and looks like a rocket going around.

Simply amazing. Who would have ever thought that rubbing the wall the entire way around would be faster than just running in the wind? I'd have thought that the friction would have slowed the car way down, but I guess that's just not true in that situation.
Wild. I wonder what Dale Earnhardt would have thought of that move.

Too Many Projects 11-01-2022 02:14 PM

I'm sure friction did slow the car, but when he was already going twice as fast as the rest of the pack around that curve, he had more than enough momentum to get the speed he needed.

Earnhardt SR ?? He would have loved it and wished he had done it....

L78_Nova 11-01-2022 03:24 PM

As amazing as this is... it could have ended much differently had that car come off the wall in pieces.

Oldss 11-01-2022 05:40 PM

There wasn’t a driver in the bunch that didn’t say to themselves, “Why didn’t I think of that!!” The hair on the back of my neck is still standing! Love it!

Exactly and if you watch the vid enough times from the stands, you can see the car come off the wall briefly when the wall straightened and he turned it back into it to control it. The back of the car is further from the wall than the front for a time, while he works to get it under control.

I could take one for the team here and drive the "other' car for you... wouldnt want you to have to race alone.

olredalert 11-01-2022 09:44 PM

----OK, so now it's bumper cars. Need side nerf bars so drivers can bank off the walls. Good racing? Don't get me wrong, loved his move. Just wondering what's next?......Bill S

Charley Lillard 11-01-2022 10:44 PM

<<<< News from NASCAR >>>>
They are suspending Ross Chastain after the move at Martinsville. Ironically enough the suspension isn’t for the move itself. It’s for an unapproved seat modification. Media reached out to Trackhouse Racing for a comment which they gladly gave. “We had to modify Chastain’s seat before the martinsville race. It was the only safe way we could fit his enormous balls comfortably in the cockpit” NASCAR then retracted the suspension.

tjs44 11-02-2022 01:33 AM

Cory LeJoy ran the same thing on the GM sim yesterday and ran the EXACT lap time.He said he would bet his house that Ross had been running it on the sim many times and just save it for the right track and the right time to pull it out of his back pocket. Most drivers have said they DONT have the balls to try it them selves.Tom

Bill Pritchard 11-02-2022 01:39 AM

I don't care how much the fans might love it, I'll bet the farm NASCAR outlaws it before the race this coming weekend. I watched the race live on TV and I agree it was an incredibly ballsy move that worked perfectly for him...all the planets were in perfect alignment for that to work out the way it did.

tjs44 11-02-2022 03:21 AM

The only thing they could actually do is throw a instant yellow.Tom

tjs44 11-02-2022 03:24 AM

Actually it has been tried 2 other time, both were unsuccefull,Last now was last year by Larson and it was blocked.Tom

Drop by Pep Boys for some weapons-grade curb feelers and have at it!

BCreekDave 11-02-2022 12:59 PM

Most likely there will be a second "aero wars" but instead of aerodynamics, there will be a resurgence of door ding side strips on the right side but now made of Teflon. Pit crews will now train on how quick they can change them out instead of tire changes! Imagine going three wide in a corner where they are all pressed up against each other!

If NASCAR does ban that maneuver from ever happening again, his team should push that car as is into a corner, and race another one from now on.
As I could see that car becoming somewhat of a collectors item over time.

John Brown 11-02-2022 01:51 PM

Rumors are that the old Hudsons used to use the Armco guard rails to achive the same effect in the late 40's and early 50's.

Too Many Projects 11-02-2022 02:22 PM

Charley has already intimated he would like it. If the move is banned, it becomes a million dollar car overnight and the price only goes up from there....:rolleyes2:

Charley Lillard 11-02-2022 07:25 PM

Steve O’Donnell, Executive Vice President of NASCAR

Says the move Ross Chastain made was within the rule book and going into this weekend's Championship race at Phoenix there is no need to adjust the rule but it will be looked at in the off-season as they do with all the rules to see if some sort of action is needed.
