SMS’s beautiful 1986 dually got me thinking of tow rigs. I tried searching threads on this topic but couldn’t find any.
Anyway here is mine.
1996 Vortec Fo fitty Fo, 4:10 gears, 4x4
I have owned this pig for 18 years.

We used to own this 98 454 K3500 Dually but sold it as the mileage was getting a bit high and replaced it with this 2015 HD2500. The old truck got 9/15 for mileage while the new is 11.9/21 so a nice move in the right direction. Otherwise they are about identical in pulling power.

Too Many Projects 06-30-2021 12:47 PM

Wow, another super clean truck.
My 1989 roll back came out of New Jersey some years ago and has rust and a gazillion hours on it, but not a lot of miles. The wipers and power window motors are worn out and barely move...:rolleyes2:
454, carburated...air cleaner has a big sticker proclaiming GM paid a big fee for this not having a throttle body. 4 speed 4.36? gears ? Motor is quite tired and needs a refresh, but I have a "few" other projects ahead of that. As long as it runs and moves, it stays together.

Presently:

Bought this one from my engine builder/race buddy. It was his racer chaser. I bugged him for 14 years before he agreed to sell it.

Currently approaching the quarter-million mile mark.

That's about where I'm at with "Max". 22.5 mph on the flat at highway speeds, 12.5 pulling the trailer (7500 lbs with the car in it).

But the power! Man! I have to be careful if the roads are wet because it will roll through first gear and start smoking the tires in second.

That's with a Bullydog programmer on the second setting. Lets out a little wisp of grey smoke (I call it "Rolling Charcoal") and I'm gone...…

;)

Keith that is a twin to my trailer. Looks like a nice combo.

If the SPID label is still in the glovebox post up a pic, and I can tell you what rear gear it came with.

Great thread. I love seeing what y’all are working with.

Here are a few current shots, and an old dually too.

The Yukon XL recently replaced a 2002 Yukon XL with 250k miles as the joint duty DD/tow vehicle. That and the Jeep trade off on light duty towing depending on where we are going and how much stuff we have to take.

The dually can now relieve the XL from some of the medium to heavy work, returning her to a life of leisure.

Just wet sanded and buffed out 1/2 of the 1999 Haulmark enclosed 24’ trailer. Need to finish that, do the interior and I have some chrome wheels coming.

2006 Ridgeline V6 Honda does fine for me, hauling my baby home from a 6 hour return trip back home.

I know it is not your heavy duty dully etc... but I have used it many times and does the trick for me.

Jesse !!!! How the heck are ya ??? I haven't seen you, or either of your vehicles in a couple years. Are you attending the show at Stillwater on the 10th ? I'm so damned busy, I'm tempted to skip it but I should show up and help run registration again.

COE’s allowed ?…not really towing but hauling cars for sure!

COE's are so cool!

Too Many Projects 07-01-2021 01:31 AM

When I quit trucking in 2012, I thought long and hard about keeping the Pete and getting a 3 place car trailer and 5th wheel travel trailer. I looked into that over the winter and decided 5 mpg just wasn't worth it to use as a toy hauler and sold it the next Spring.

Pulled this for 19 years in the summer and 53' vans in the winter.

Thanks a lot. It's a 290DA. I just got finished rebuilding the Gen 6 454 and replacing the transom assembly. I picked it up last summer.

This a pretty neat post! Attached are a couple pics of our towing rig-2009 F350 HD, chipped, deleted, and actually fun to drive! I have only switched it out of "Stock" tune a couple times, but as someone noted earlier, it will certainly "roll coal" in "Performance" settings. With no trailer, about 18 MPG (US gallons!) and with a camper or trailer, about 10 MPG, all at 70 MPH.

That's a lot of boat for a trailer. Do you need a permit to tow it due to the width? Thanks.
