350 for Karen's 69 Camaro...

Taking a break from watching the turkey cook...:smirk:

Karen would like to have a little more power under the right pedal next summer in her 69 SS. Car is pretty stock now...early 70's 350 with a Muncie and 12 bolt.

I have a 68 350/295hp we took out of a Nova...ran great, so we are considering rebuilding this and just doing the swap.

I know there are lots of crate engine options, but we kind of like building our own. Been thinking of a better set of heads and a retro-fit hydraulic roller, dual plane intake, keep the QJ.

Interested to hear your thoughts on the subject.

Now back to the kitchen

Have a nice bird...wilma

Idk the car or how stock it looks or how stock you w t it to look
I’d put forged internals w good rods, a nice cam doesn’t have to be roller I usually run a solid flat tappet myself but a roller gives more area under the curve . This is more useful in class racing than street where you can make that up w lift or duration without limits best bang for the buck will almost always be in head printing for NA engines boost doesn’t need that don’t forget it’s just an air pump so more air in the more air out the more HP it makes of your gonna get a rotating assembly why not stroke it too. Where does it end!
But personally I’d I want HP I bolt on a hair dryer and call it a day. Make 700 hp with ease and never look back. The beauty of a turbo is when you’re not in boost it’s a stock low confession smog engine basically that doesn’t get hot and usually you run a mild cam with it so it very drivable . All depends what you’re trying to do with it.

I built a 383 for my 69 C10 a few years ago and recently put it on the chassis dyno. It made right at 400 hp to the tires, same for tq. HP peak was 6,000 rpm. Dyno operator said it was 500 at the crank all day long. I would recommend going 383 as the extra cubes do help and it's about the same cost as building a 350.

Build a nice speck L79 Tommy. Good factory compression, nice cam (hyd. roller if you want) and you can keep the cast intake an Q jet. A little head work and carb work with the distributor done on a machine you will be golden. Easy to maintain and easy to drive.
