How we used to travel,no seatbelts and both your parents smoking in the front seat with all the windows closed.
A miracle we survived. |
any idea what year this ad is from? either its his sales gimmick to "lower" the price on everything or was it during the gas crunch when you couldnt hardly give a musclecar away.

By 1971, if you could find insurance, it was prohibitively expensive. Resale value tanked, dealers didn't want to trade them in. This is from my May 1970 insurance policy app. |

When I bought my red '67 SS in '67, the agent from the company my parents had been with for 30 years came out. Wanted the stamp on the block, said they would only insure it because it was an L35, no L34 or L78. $300 for 1st 6 months :eek2: :eek2: and IF I had NO tickets they MIGHT renew!! That's $50/month for a student making $1.25 an hour pumping gas... I was able to keep the car after finding another company with a rate of $47 for 6 months, on the condition my parents also switched. Then came the OPEC crisis, the last nail... |
[QUOTE=William;1649225]The insurance industry killed 60s/70s muscle cars. Don Yenko said as much in his famous MCR interview.
By 1971, if you could find insurance, it was prohibitively expensive. Resale value tanked, dealers didn't want to trade them in. My 65 GTO in 1972 for insurance was over a $100 a month, that was with a 100% surcharge if I remember right. I was 19 with to tickets or accidents..... |
