Dang, just read the whole thread. You're painter is a true professional. When you can see the reflection of the individual tubes in the lights without them being fuzzy, there is VERY,VERY little orange peel in the paint and clear. Better than some pro jobs I've seen AFTER cut and buff !!!


Now that they have practiced on yours, when can I bring mine down ?? 1967 ss/rs in the same Granada Gold. I'll take the same mix code you have, love the color and depth.


My car, also, came for the Bay area 16 years ago with the same rust holes in the rear window, except mine was neglected and took out the entire trunk pan. Maybe all that silicone actually did slow down the rust spread...:hmmm:
My left front fender had a "whiskey" (love that description) dent deep in the front edge too. I searched for quite a while to come up with an NOS rs fender and then drove 1800 miles rt to get it. Crazy what we do for our cars.

Thanks for the kind words. I agree, the painter did a great job! It really doesn't even need to be sanded other than a little dirt in the clear.

The true hero of this is definitely the body man. To find a guy in his mid 30s who knows how to metal finish must be very rare. I'm lucky he wanted to do the job and to make the experience that much better, there's no ego with him. Very humble, no drama, no excuses, just yes I can do it or no I can't do it. His honesty is what drove me to hunting down the NOS fender, since he told me fixing the original would require too much bondo.

I'd like to see pictures of your 67. I think I could get you the formula. It's all PPG. Not sure it's dead nuts Granada Gold, almost looks too "gold" but it's beautiful. We matched as best we could to the original lacquer. In my opinion this looks way better!

You're right on the bodyman being 1 of 2 hero's. I "thought" the guy who worked on my '66 Chevelle as a bodyman too, but all he was is a bondo artist and not all that good with that either, but that's a different nightmare.


I've owned my Camaro for about 15 years and built it back to a driver from the basket case it was. Unfortunately, I got side tracked with MANY other cars and projects for 13 years and finally pulled it into the shop for the trunk floor replacement about 16 months back. In the midst of that we, found a different place to live and moved, so it got put together enough to self load on the trailer and hasn't been touched since.

It's no supercar, so I hesitate to start a build thread, but it was taken down to the bare firewall and all rust removed. Subframe powered coated, al new power disc brake conversion, new 350 engine, m21, yada, yada, yada. I did jam the clip parts with ppg single stage Granada before assembly and only having a little left of the pint, sprayed it out on the front panel, hood and cowl panel. It's a nice color, but I like that you have this in a close match with the bc/cc and yes, I think it may be a "richer" shade of gold.

Saw this 67 on Facebook today and it made me think of your car. Perhaps a little Day 2 inspiration of sorts.

Love it! I've read the article about that car. Somewhat of a survivor L78 old street race car with one repaint.

Looks like I'm getting some more color on the car today!

That gold L78 is insane. As close to perfection as you can get. I'm sure your car will turn out just as choice as that benchmark!

More Updates... I can now say FINALLY, the paint is complete! The hood was the final piece to be painted and also kind of like the crown of the car, a very important piece of what I envisioned for years! As you all know this car is in a production body shop, NOT a restoration shop. This has both pros and cons. Luckily there are some very talented individuals working here, however nobody wanted to make the template for the stinger stripe. I was telling my dad about my the dilemma of finding someone to lay down the stripes. He just said, "No problem, I'll do it for you." Wow I mean I know this guy can do pretty much everything so what would make this any different. Possibly the only guy to ever stripe a stinger hood while wearing a suit :haha:. Pretty awesome memory for me :cool2:

When it was all said and done, he asked how it looked.... it's freaking awesome! Every time I look at the hood I'll have the moment to think about this, and that's priceless.

Also got an email a few days back that Moser Engineering is offering a 12% off Black Friday discount so I went with another one of their complete 12 Bolt rears. Multi leaf perches, Wavetrac differential, 35 spline bolt in axles, Timken bearings, powder coated housing, 1350 U Joint pinion yoke, and 4.10 gears... I'll be using the stock drum brakes in the rear. I was going to go with a Mark Williams unit but it would be about $1000 more, I don't think this thing will get enough abuse to substantiate the difference in cost. I had good luck with Moser in the past.
