67 Yenko Camaro at MCACN
The 67 Yenko at the MCACN looked very nice . The owner was nowhere to be found. Really would have liked to get all the details on the car . Nobody knew anything about it . What’s the info on it ?

YS601 was there. Owned by Phil Mitchell but I think he had 5 cars there so was pretty spread out.

saw this on FB in Warren Richardson's album
looks like YS601 |
Yep that was one of the unveilings that happened on Saturday. Beautiful car.
if you walked by it at the show, you would have never known it was a Yenko unless you read the card on the ground. I beleive it was the 1st Yenko Camaro built?? |
It is YS601 the very first Yenko 427 Camaro conversion built. There was a story on it in Muscle Car Review, September 2010. It was sold new at Lou Bachrodt Cheverolet in Rockford (Still in business) They sold at least one Stinger and Two '67 Camaros. The car was in Loves Park, Illinois with the Original owner until he passed and the family sold it.
It was a street car and raced at Byron Dragway while in Demo service by Todd Ocide the Corvette and Performance Manager @ Bachrodt as well as the original owner. It was restored by Level One in Colorodo. |
67 Yenko
Started its life out as a SS 350.Very nice restoration. I like the 427 emblem. on the fender. They left the bottom hole exposed from the original 350 emblem . So neat.

As Jonesy said, I didn't really notice it was a Yenko until I read the board. Interesting that he used a 350 car. Was it converted before the release of the 396 ? |

I didn't get a good photo of the cowl tag but it said it was built 02E. I have an NCRS report on a car with a nearby VIN and it says the production date was 3-3-67. Yes, Chevy had already begun building the L35 Camaros by that time.

It is hard to believe that YS-601 is the first Yenko 427 Camaro built. The trim tag 02E build date means that car was not converted until March 67.
There are more early Yenko 427 vins. One is Dec. 66. The early Yenko photos and ads appear to show two butternut yellow SS RS Camaros , one with black top one without. The black top car appears in an early Yenko 427 Stomper Camaro ad. This ad uses the early "Stomper" name and has no mention of Dick Harrell as Yenko began to do SS350 to SS427 Camaros before the deal with Harrell. It is hard to believe that Yenko would wait to March 67 to build a 427 Camaro when he had everything needed by Jan. 67 . Yenko bought early conversion parts from Bill Thomas. |
