Day II ̶D̶e̶u̶c̶e̶ NOVA
Bought this little ̶D̶e̶u̶c̶e̶ NOVA from Mel after the previous buyer came up short on funding. Cragar's didn't come with it so I'm going to install a new set of wheels with some vintage M/T rubber. Then it's a Lakewood 3 point bar, Hurst air shocks, roll control, and a Ramrod shifter. Going to leave the old paint alone as it's been on there for 40+ years c/w checking on the roof. Should be pretty cool when it's ready to roll after the snows gone up here.
Pics of it from back in the day with a Grump lump scoop, Cragars, shackles and slicks on the rear. It's been cleaned up a bit since these were taken, but it's going right back to the way it was in these shots. https://image.ibb.co/bChCQU/IMG_1361.jpg https://image.ibb.co/ku5ozp/IMG_1360.jpg |
Congrats Graeme! Old school looks good on you buddy...
|
Very nice!!
|
Nice car... what did the seller do with the cragars that were on it in the original ebay ad?
|
Mel kept them for his 55 and mounted the welds (I'll use those with Hoosiers on track days). I have some TT wheels that I prefer to Cragars and will use those for this car. Rear's are getting 8.5 with H50 Mickey's and front are getting 4's with Firestone pie crust 5.60's. Should look pretty cool with those but it's gonna need some air shocks in the back. Also have some old Firestone Drag 500 slicks that Tony hooked me up with. I'll mount those on a set of steelies and whenever they go on it, it'll have the same look as that show above.
|
Congrats on the purchase! I know I was one of many staring an the eBay listing knowing I'd feel a little regret not jumping on it!
More pictures please! |

nice. was looking hard at that as well cool car for sure.

Very Nice Ride....
|
I had a chance at it back in July before it went to eBay but he wanted more money for it and I passed on it (regretfully). He then listed it and had a buyer through eBay who flaked out at 25K. Next guy asked him to sell it through eBay w/o the Cragars so he listed it again but with the Weld wheels on it for $23K. I saw it listed again and figured I better call but he already had it sold to this guy through eBay. I was hoping the guy would flake, so after staying on him for a couple weeks he promised it to me if the other guy didn't come through with the funds. He gave the guy ample time to close but it never happened so I got the call last week saying it was mine and I snapped it up quickly.
Car has 40+ year old lacquer paint and some checking, but is still in really nice shape throughout most of the car. Floors are super clean with one patch plate where the Vertigate shifter was once installed. It's a 36,000 mile car and Mel was only the third owner of it. Original engine is gone but that's not of importance to me on this car. Booster came off when it had a 327 tunnel ram and big solid cam back in the day. Hood was later sold but the car comes with another scoop if I want to add one to the hood that's on the car. First 2 shots show the old 327 tunnel ram and the old hood. Cowl plate was also filled so I'll need to add one if I want to reconnect the wiper transmission. I'll need that to get it licensed up here. https://image.ibb.co/bYJuqU/Old_Hood.jpg https://image.ibb.co/k11sc9/Tunnel.jpg https://image.ibb.co/eUKgKp/Nova_1.jpg https://image.ibb.co/guGNQU/s_l1600_2.jpg https://image.ibb.co/i1pyzp/s_l1600_3.jpg https://image.ibb.co/h977s9/s_l1600_4.jpg https://image.ibb.co/kzBp5U/s_l1600_13.jpg https://image.ibb.co/cu0hQU/Nova_Trim_Tag.jpg https://image.ibb.co/nCCqC9/IMG_1359.jpg |
I vote for tunnel ram and Grump Lump!
|
Here are some of the parts I'll be adding to it over the winter.

Nice score Graeme! This should be entertaining!!!!
|
NorCam, alright now you're just rubbing it in!
I wasn't familiar with that Lakewood 3-point bar. Given it bolts together and is a simple structure, I'm assuming it doesn't offer much safety or additional rigidity. That said, it certainly looks the part! Looking forward to seeing your progress on this car. I've been lurking on this site for awhile now and have really enjoyed reading about the history of your other cars. :beers: |
Love it!

They can be bolted in or welded for better results but will only get past tech for slower cars running 11.99 or slower in the quarter (I think those numbers are correct). I was also told that adding a door bar to the side qualifies them as a suitable 4 point roll bar. However, this one's purely for the period look. If I did plan on racing the car I'd install a proper cage for sure. Glad you chimed in here. :headbang: |

I was following this deuce on ebay wishing our dollar was in better shape!
Looks to be a great car and I like your plans to continue the day 2 theme. |
Great find. I also vote for the tunnel ram and Grump lump.

And like you said, it's perfect for the period look! |
Congrats on the purchase. I know the car, saw it when it was owned locally here in Strongsville, Oh.
Sold new at Ed Stinn Chevrolet in Fairview Park, Oh. Very cool car!! Rich |
Love this car, can't wait to see the updates.

----"Ed Stinn Chevrolet". Same dealer I bought my 69 435 Corvette from new......Bill S

Graeme, You really have all the day 2 stuff down! Keep posting pics please! I really want to see a video on how those M/T scavengers sound!!!!!!
Great job my friend Scott |

Still waiting on the car to arrive from the East Coast via national carrier. Once it's here I'll add some better pictures. For now it's all hands on my 69 as I try and get it finished up before starting anything serious on the nova. But for now, here's the M/T style headers uncorked on the 383. This motor is going into the Nova too. |
Pretty cool ride. Like the shadow high lites. Old school.
|
Damn it.....Now I need some of those! Thanks for the video
Scott |
Very cool car. Didn't take you long to gather up all the right parts.
|
Had all of that stuff collected for the green 69 Z/28 Lynn. I've decided to put the Camaro back to bone stock now so the Nova was a great excuse for use of all the day 2 goodies I have collected over the past year or two. All I need now is a tunnel ram and I've already got my eyes on one of those. :)

As busy as the enclosed carriers are hauling exotics these days, the Deuce was finally picked up yesterday and is now on it's way up to Canada, then west where it'll begin a new chapter. I can't wait for it to get here, but neither can the snow. It's been a crappy fall the past few weeks and it's snowing right now with about 3" of fluff that arrived overnight. The only good thing about that is the fact that I got out last night to get all the leaves mulched before this first little dump of snow.
Yesterday, the Nova was loaded up in Jersey and is finally on it's way out west. https://image.ibb.co/gnxkye/Shipping_Day.jpg https://image.ibb.co/b91pPK/70_Nova_SS.jpg https://image.ibb.co/k1MdJe/Loading_TFX.jpg |
NorCam, the snow hasn't made it to us in New England ... yet. You should play is safe and re-route that Deuce to me for safe keeping! I promise it will be safe, warm, and well enjoyed! :burnout: Call it a detour!
I'm excited to see your progress with this car. Your parts stash and plan are pretty inspiring. Combine that with David Freiburger's Crusher Camaro done up in "Grumpy" Day 2 garb, and I'm convinced that's the style I want to build! Well, that or a 911 SC. What can I say, I love em all! |
That yard and landscaping is beautiful. Enjoy the car.
|
lol...it looks a little different tonight. About 6"-7" around here, but Calgary just set a record for one day snow that's stood since 1883 and got 24"-30" over the past 24 hours. It's melting fast but what a mess. At least I got the leaves mulched, and there were lots.

Wow...snow already!:hmmm:

87 here in OKC today. 88 tomorrow.

Got your message but couldn't respond for some reason. Car is enroute and will be here in a day or two. And yes, 6 weeks from NJ to Western Canada is the norm these days. Transports are always loaded with exotics headed for Vancouver and they have to make a hole for beaters to fit in with the McLaren's and Maserati's. (lol) Pictures are a comin...and the weather has gotten better around here. Still a few days left for burning some rubber. |
Got the Nova today but was more excited about the car that was underneath it in the trailer. I say that as a couple years ago I tried chasing an old C/MP 67 Camaro called Checkmate that was campaigned by Paul Mercure around Michigan. The trail went cold on my hunt for the car but someone out of BC Canada must have looked harder than me as it turned up in Michigan and it was in the trailer today. It's now headed to BC.
Here's the car in question. More on this Nova when I take some pictures of it later on. http://images55.fotki.com/v507/photo...eCamaro-vi.jpg |
Here's a couple shots of the nova and a walk around video with it running. Paint is pretty cool on it but it's covered in dust and needs washing right now. Looked under it and the floors are super clean. Engine is a little weakling so that will be coming out to make room for upgrades. I'll need to add a wiper transmission, now front cowl panel, clean up some wiring and fix a few things here and there before dropping the 383 motor into it. I'll also put some new wheels on it and start adding some of the day 2 parts over the winter and spring. Should be a fun car come spring time. We'll see how it all turns out as things move along.

Diggin’ your plan! Keep us posted with your progress......with LOTS of pix!!!:3gears::Can-I-Have-It:
