Take note of the original underhood shots especially the rare L89, which provide priceless amazing factory details.

I was trying to eat lunch until I saw the hubcaps on that Nova.

Some of the ugliest hubcaps of the era in my personal opinion, although there are some others that will give them a run for their money.

Chevy Article...

Great post...thanks.

The under hood and interior shots should really help folks looking to get the details correct.

The Nova has a TH-400 behind that 396. That L-34 can come alive with some headers, aluminum intake, Holley and a little more gear. A shift kit in the tranny would help, too. The factory tach is just for looks...you need a real one on the steering column.

Enjoyed the read.

AIR system is plumbed into the headers, that’s a first for me

Man, look at the headlamp door alignment on that RS L78.

Mr70 10-09-2022 12:01 PM

I noticed that too.

The Z/28 and L78 SS-RS used for the tests both still exist.

Maybe I missed it but what Magazine issue is this in?
Thank you :)

April 1969 Popular Hot Rodding.

The Z/28 was also featured in the January '69 Hot Rod and June '69 Sports Car Graphic. Probably one of the most unusually equipped Z/28s ever built. In addition, was built with the '68 rear stripe layout.

Hot Rod not only tested it, they had free rein to modify it and did. Headers, blueprinted heads, 5.38 gears, aftermarket clutch, flywheel and shifter. The testing ended when the axle failed. Appears it was returned to production specs and sold as a new car.

You would really have to dig, there are some never published photos of it in the Petersen archives. Looks like the tailpipes were painted black in production.
