The first Daisy No.25 air rifle

This thread is about the model #25 Daisy BB gun. “King of all BB Guns”.

I’m sure most of the members on this forum had a BB gun as a child and possibly still have one now.

My Dad bought my first lever action BB air rifle from Sears when I was 6 years old. I wore that gun out and I still have it along with many more I’ve collected over the years.

I wanted to share the really rare version of the Daisy air rifle, the No.25 that was designed and built by Fred Lefever.
This air rifle was a single pump with a high velocity that used lead balls.

The first version of the No.25 was 1914.

The features on the earliest guns are as follows.
1) Front adjustable site.
2) 5 groove wood pump handle.
3) Case hardened finish on “short throw” lever.
4) No lever reinforcing rib.
5) Large head take down bolt.
6) No metal tang from receiver to wood stock.
Plus much more smaller items like screws, triggers, rear sites, etc. that distinguish the first generation No.25.

Below are two of mine that are of the 1915-1917 group.

Both these BB guns are Factory Original and considered extremely nice in the collectors world of vintage Daisy guns.

Brings back a lot of memories, when I was young kid growing up in Detroit my father worked for Daisy in Plymouth Michigan. I had every BB Gun they made plus boxes and boxes filled with the tubes of BB's. Jack Hille

Great thread...every boys dream was that first BB gun or .22 rifle. Back in the day it was a 'right of passage'. The craftmanship and real wood in these vintage
guns is amazing...and made in the USA :flag::flag:

I remember going to high school during hunting season with a shotgun in my father's Impala wagon...they would call out the SWAT team today. :eek2:

Many kids were on rifle teams and rode the school bus with their .22 rifle, kept it in their locker for the after school shooting program.

Wow, a bet not a lot of those original boxes survived long after Christmas!

My Dad's Daisy 50th Anniversary Golden Eagle. They were made from 1936 to 1940. It still works. I wish I had the broken piece from the upper stock. The crack/break area seems to be a common defect from the used ones I see for sale on ebay, etc. I may pull the stock out and try to remake the missing section. (And then just hand paint the repaired section to match the existing black paint patina)

And my 1972 Crosman 761XL. Got it for Christmas in 1972. They were made between 1972 and 1978. My Mom didn't want my Dad to get me one since I would "shoot my eye out with that thing".

And what happened the first time i used it? The BB bounced off the boulder that I had placed some bottles on, and ricocheted right back into my glasses. Just like in the movie! Luckily the glasses defected the BB. Never told Mom though!

I brought it out the other day to the local gun range. It was quite the hit! You could have brought a .50 cal machine gun and sat it next me and it wouldn't have been noticed the way the 761 was. All the old Boomers wanted to see it! It still shoots great. They had a "30-Yard Thursday" contest to hit a 3" balloon at 30 yards. I bullseyed the balloon on my second shot! (Had to pump it 11 times, first) :-)
