I dont know if that was a car that he ever owned or was given to him. |
There is reason to believe OJ Simpson never owned and had nothing to do with the car in the photo.
The occasion was his signing a contract to appear in ads for Chevrolet. There are other photos of the occasion; in one of them he is posing with John DeLorean. DeLorean joined Chevrolet early February, 1969 placing the date for the photo at least several weeks later. The car in the photo has the early D90 stripe, placing its production no later than early November, 1968. The car also has private CA tags on it; not the usual MFG tags seen in road tests. My guess, they were at the LA Zone office and needed a prop. |
I have a 1st gen Camaro fact book that states OJ was given the car in 1969 by Chevrolet in recognition for him being awarded the Heisman trophy that year.

Sounds like an NCAA violation to receive a camaro for winning the Heismann.

My 11B VanNuys 69 Camaro has the same extended stripe. It had original paint when I bought it.

The famous L89/auto PHR road test car L507834 [final-assembled on or about Nov 11] had the 2nd design; terminated at the fender extension.
