At least some truth in advertising at BJ

It was refreshing to see this disclosure on this RS Z/28 with cross ram.

15 years ago, this would have been touted at numbers matching.

Hoping the Mecum follows suit.

Listing for Lot 1139: https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Even...RO-Z/28-261946

Notice this disclosure: "The car displays a non-OEM Trim Tag"

Surprised to see that disclosure.

My guess is probably only bc of JM. You think?

Lynn 01-28-2023 02:58 PM

I think so. But, that is bc BJ hired Jerry to look over the GM cars to verify numbers claims. At least that is what I was told a few years back. Assuming it is still the case. Any of you guys "in the know"?

Jerry doesn't need me to speak for him, but for the sake of an answer on this subject... He mentioned to me he has been working there at BJ for I think about 8 or 9 years now. He is a Auto Specialist for Barrett Jackson. Along with other specialists that perform inspections on other brands. He was getting a bit overwhelmed with so many cars to be inspected, that he had a meeting with BJ to hire his friend Norm as his helper. Which really helped out. There are times that he is doing 25 to 30 cars or MORE. He has to stay there for DAYS. AND he has to be available for questions during the auctions. It's ALOT of work! Maybe JM will chime in...
I am in agreement that BJ posted that info because of Jerry and his ethics. Why else... Ya don't think auction houses are developing a conscience, do ya?.... As far as other auction houses following suit.. you're in a temporary state of dream-land.
Not going to happen.

Isn’t Colin working with BJ also?

"As far as other auction houses following suit.. you're in a temporary state of dream-land."

You may be correct. But, as far as I am concerned, it is just good business practice. I think it will pay off in the long run.

Listing cars without pics of the vin (or even listing the vin) or trim tag sucks. JMHO.

Lynn I agree completely. It would be awesome to be able to punch up VINS and do research and ask for help and advice on cars before you bid. I think if they thought being honest and forthcoming would help them, they would have done it already. After-all, this has been happening for over 50 years. They got tired of being sued so they hired the professional teams to inspect. It's all about bidding cars to the reserve or close with fake bidders. Pumping some cocktails into potential bidders. The bidder getting stars in his/her eyes being on TV, thinking they are some kind of a temporary super star with the camera and helper in their face and being persuaded to drain their bank account. I laugh to myself when I see someone drain their savings on a car with a complete mismatched drive train. Cause it looks pretty under the paint enhancing lights. Danny

Jerry has been banned from this site for years so don’t expect him to reply. The ZL1 sold for 700k He made no mention of the hidden vins being missing but he did finally mention the repo trim tag but never mentioned it in his first report.
