Mid-year Corvette Thoughts?

1 Attachment(s)
I know there are some mid-year experts on here, and my friend is looking at this '64 so I was just wondering what everyone thought of it. I don't know much beyond normal body work and mechanics. Appreciate any help.

----It would have been nice to see some detail pics, such as some more of the engine compartment. Also underbody and frame. I'm a bit cofused as the tach says 365 yet the engine appears to have a cast iron intake. Engine is also missing all the spark plug shields. No pics of the pad or casting dates on the engine as well as trans says a lot about originality of the engine. You probably noticed the hurst and the 65-66 big-block hood, But the emblem is missing from the tip of the spear in front of the hood. That could just be an example of what a former owner wanted or the surround may have been replaced. The KO's are, of course reproductions. The drivers seat has splits in the bottom, but both bottoms appear to be reproduction. The stamped pleats are not deep enough. All in all, it would be a good idea to dig a lot deeper. You know enough to check the appropriate numbers and you can check for frame rust. Due diligence is needed!.....Bill S

Bill, looking at the contours of the intake, plus it has a by-pass hose at the front, I am guessing that the aluminum intake was painted with the rest of the engine at rebuild time. Probably too lazy to put the shielding and brackets back too. I believe that's the correct air cleaner for 365 HP, plus the chrome oil fill tube. - Bill W

With the pics provided, I have a couple of thoughts.

1. The left hand headlight bucket has much larger gaps than OE. The right side looks FTP. If were to bet on it, that's why the hood is different and the nose emblem is not there. That is in conflict with the statement about no accidents.

2. The gas cap being painted body color should be indicative of the detail when the car was painted. I think you'd be really disappointed to see this car in person.

I feel the asking price is strong just seeing those items I pointed out. I fear an educated eye would really tear this apart IMO.

OK, great, I appreciate your thoughts. He's just a regular guy, not deep into cars and just wanted a cruiser to go to dinner and get ice cream with his kid. No concerns about originality, but didn't want to buy a pig in a poke. Thank you all.

The car as a left inner fender from a 66 67 with the hood support perversion.

Good comments, guys. Look at the frame on this one before buying, a Florida car does not always mean a Florida car in its past. There are enough questions from the pictures to go look in person at this car. My guess is it has issues that are not evident in the pictures. Get trim tag and VIN pictures before spending a dime on travel. I'm certain the original motor is gone.

Thanks again gentlemen. This is a car local to us, and I get that it may not have always been an FL car. Appreciate the wealth of info you all have.
