Meeting up at MCACN

I have met of few of you face to face, either at MCACN in 2016 or at the Supercar Reunion in 2007.

I would like to meet up with some more folks. I had an idea for getting some tables and then making a pizza run. But, apparently, getting tables is a problem.

Is there somewhere (a common area perhaps) where we could bring in pizza and beer? If not, anyone have an idea for a local restaurant that could handle a group?

Any bright ideas?

Mr. Chevy 11-17-2021 10:41 PM

The Embassy Suites has the large atrium with tables and chairs and is usually not busy in the evenings... One year we just ordered pizzas and hung out there. It was nice and quiet actually...

I wish everyone all the best, and wish I could be there and check in with so many of you guys!!!

Ryan, it appears you and I are in the same boat.....that is missing the 2021 show. I was pumped on attending and then things went sideways here for all sorts of reasons.

I really wanted to lay my eyes on the Stefano's 1970 Peterborough W27-4 speed Special Order Paint. That is one cool piece. You will have to catch up with it someday.

Like Ryan mentioned, I wish all a great show and I too will be waiting for pics.....keep them coming.

Bob A, Charley L, Steve S, Jason A, Dan F, Tom M, Stefano and others......we will see you next year.

We are not there this year either...as our docs advised against large crowds for Holly-and I didn't want to risk it.

I've seen some way cool pics on Facebook so far...so it's going to be an awesome show. Bob and all involved make it a priority to make it better EVERY year...

I'm in the same boat too, only wishing I could make the show but simply cannot.
I haven't seen Stefano's Spec Paint W31/W27 car in years and was hoping to again plus so many others but also looking forward to finally meeting so many members here face to face.
We Canucks need to get together and plan next year way ahead, what's the 2022 dates?
:beers:

Sorry you can’t make it, always the weekend before the USA Thanksgiving holiday.

I'd heard about this show for years, but that particular timing was always an issue. I've just worked around it since semi-retiring, but moving it ahead 1 weekend may, possibly, afford more people the opportunity to attend. The last weekend before any major holiday is chaotic enough in itself.

Exactly Mitch, my problem too w/ another annual commitment always on this same weekend.
But planning far ahead, I'm hoping it happen so am aiming for next year's show now.
Safe running to everyone making the trek this year also have a great time!:youguysrock:

Well, speaking as a fellow Canuck (but really anyone who loves great cars) I can’t say enough how great the show is. It really is a “bucket list” thing. I have been fortunate enough to attend several times and was able to show our car in 2012 and 2016. We will do so again next year. This year I drove down even tho I have to get a negative COVID test to get back home so I gotta be careful, but it is so worth it to see the cars and meet some of the owners at this event.

Lynn 11-24-2021 01:53 PM

Sherri and I had a great time. I think we were able to see about 500 of the 560 or so cars. I met up with Joe (hiperf69) to get some tires, wheels and a damper from him. We also got to spend some quality time with Stefano. He and his wife were very gracious. As a vendor at the event, I know his time was limited, but you would never have known it. What a great resource to have on this site.
We also had a great chat with Charley. No one gets “quality time” with Charley, right? We had just seen the “Rustoleum 57” (yeah, you need to name it Charley) and were able to get the scoop on it.
Also got to talk with Dan V for a bit. Even met a guy who is building a 53 Studebaker Commander gasser; and he may have the clutch pedal and linkage parts I need for my 53.
The biggest problem for me is this: I would really like to meet some of you other guys face to face, but I don’t know what you look like. I know Mitch and Jonesy met up, cuz Mitch already has the cool tires and wheels going on the Camaro. I would see 5-10 guys yukking it up in a group, and wonder if it was a group of guys from the yenko site. Just didn’t want to walk up and ask total strangers if they happen to frequent this site. Maybe next time we figure out a way to make it happen.

Same here. I wonder if we had "site" ball caps or shirts would help for some of us that dont know everyone's face?

Too Many Projects 11-24-2021 09:03 PM

I'm with ya, Lynn, we need a better way to meet people we converse with on here. I tried wearing a name tag, but the adhesive didn't like cloth and kept falling off my jacket. I finally gave up.
I think lanyard's, like participants, vendors and judges wear, with a tag displaying the The Supercar Registry logo on one side and our name on the other would be a better option than waiting for people to come to a desk. We could set this up to order ahead of time and have them shipped to our home and wear them right in the front door... maybe we would get VIP treatment...

Jonesy 11-24-2021 09:47 PM

I met quite a few guys. I agree that its hard to know who's who. Everyone I met was great and its nice to meet up with guys who can relate on car stuff. The name tags fell off. I think a landyard and plastic card type thing would be cool to have. Just hang it around your neck. Just never seems like there is enough time once you get there. I probably talked more than I looked at cars. I had a great time and I will be back next year. Lynn, I missed you by a few minutes. I probably walked by you 20 times without knowing it.:)
It was great to meet you all and I hope to meet more of the guys next year. We will have to get something made up before MCACN 2022.

flyingn 11-24-2021 10:31 PM

I met a couple members at the show. I believe mitch and i was chatting for a while.

Steve Shauger 11-25-2021 02:03 AM

Name tags

I started this thread indicating what area the tags would be and had a banner and table setup on Friday and Saturday. I met some new faces and passed out tags. I shamed Mitch into helping and had a nice chat. It's pretty hectic for me so I don't have much downtime at the show. I wonder if we could stick the name tags on lanyard/ show ticket. I can get lanyards and name tags made if that helps, and will provide them next year. Just contact me with your ideas and lets get it done!!!!

I will admit to being a retard; never saw that thread. In my (weak) defense, the last two months have been a nightmare in my world.

MCACN was a great diversion for me. Give me a nudge next year Steve. I will be on board.

With my Chevelle parked maybe 30 feet from the table I thought I'd put more faces with names, had a tag on all weekend.
It was great to see old friends from across the country again, but didn't see many SYC tags. Did meet Tim (napa68), Chad (carnutforlife), the Dykstra Bros and Bill (oldredalert). Your Suburban is killer Bill!! Apologies is I've forgotten anyone.

Same here, I had the sticker on my MCACN lanyard but had hoped to meet more members than I did. I had posted on another thread for everyone to meet at my car at 2pm Saturday. A few guys (Freddie, Bentley) showed up which was great. IMO a designated meeting place/time along with name tags would be the best if well-advertised before-hand. Once you get roaming around at that show, you get engrossed in the cars, the last thing you're looking at is name tags.

And I lost track of time and was probably in the cafe getting food about then. After that, I went back to the Hyatt and got my assigned room and checked it out...for 2 hours on the bed. I was a zombie by then from only having about 3 hours of sleep since 7am Friday.
I need to plan better for next year and get more rest. Forgetting to put the SD card in the camera Friday night before I left home was a BIG disappointment. We should be able to work out a better plan for meeting and greeting in the next 8-10 months too.
Maybe I should sign on as a volunteer and be there to help set up Thursday and Friday. That would put me in a position to meet people. Does that come with a room Bob/Ian ...
