L-78 Motor and auto trans
Saw this on e-bay. I know nothing about the seller but I think these transmissions are special and hard to find.

That sure didn't last long. I wonder if the new owner got the '69 Nova it came out of. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: L-78 Motor and auto trans
I expect we could find something, somewhere.
One thing I thought that was interesting about this motor was that one head was an 840, and the other was a 292. The car is a late built 69, almost 70 and has a 163 intake. The owner said neither were replacement heads, and were within a month of each other on the cast dates. I believe on novas built around that time that very few things were set in stone. Between labor disputes, and the late introduction of the new camaro, that inconsistencies are not uncomon.JMHO. |
Re: L-78 Motor and auto trans
The block is an 854 (402)which is actually a 70 P/N but was used very late in the 69 model year (most of 69 was a 272 p/n)That would explain the 291 and 840 head scenario

Re: L-78 Motor and auto trans
Congrats Alan! it looks good. If you don't have a use for it, let me know.

Re: L-78 Motor and auto trans
Weren't the 840 heads a smaller exhaust valve (1.72) than a 291 head (1.88)?
If that were the case, as I think, then that motor with 2 different heads would be a little lopsided in power output from side to side. Probably not enough to notice though. |
Re: L-78 Motor and auto trans
I have 2 seperate MATCHED sets of 840/291 squuare port heads, both with late 1969 dates. I was just under the impression that they did this late in the 1969 model year? Am I wrong?
