'70 Cowl tag rivets and attachment

Anyone have a clear picture showing the correct cowl tag rivets for a '70 Camaro and what should the color of the metal be under the tag? Was the firewall painted before or after the tag was attached on a Norwood car? JHS

I have always wondered, is the tag supposed to be painted or bare?

I would think it would be painted...

Thanks. I will assume that the firewall was sprayed prior to the cowl tag attachment.

My 70 Gibb car. I took the car to bare metal. If I remember right the tag was painted the color of the car then the black was sprayed on the firewall?? I found copper on the tag which was the org. color of the car. I never took a picture of it now I wish I had.

I think they were painted body color after the tag was on.

The tag is put on before the painting process; some also have a wad of caulk inside of the rivet. Some have it; some don’t https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

I agree with the tag first, my original paint car has Hugger Orange on the tag I think from the overspray in the cowl area.

If Camaros are the same as Chevelles, the area was brushed with zinc dichromate due to the dissimilar metals where the tag attaches to the cowl. The tag was then applied, rivet holes caulked in most cases, body color was painted and then the firewall and cowl were blacked out.

You mean like this zink chromate on Gardy's Nova ?
Also note the absence of caulk in the ribbet holes. It looks like the only paint under this tag is the brushed on Zink Chromate.
