Ed Montini's 1968 non converted 9737 COPO
SYC Members,
I'd like to thank everyone who has contributed over the past 2-3 years to the completion of my 68 Camaro, 9737 COPO, non converted car. The car hit the front cover of the March - Muscle Car Enthusiast Magazine. The uniqueness of these special cars is the fact that six of the seventy planned 1968 Yenko Camaro cars never made the conversion, thus these final six were ultimately made available to the public at the end of the 1968 production thru Yenko Chevrolet as special hi-performace cars. We believe the final six non- converted cars were 5 Corvette Bronze and 1 Rallye Green. The excellent detective work that was done 3-4 years ago by the late Tom Billigan, Joe Barr, Brian Henderson, Chuck Huber and a few others have uncovered another interesting piece of history with Yenko and these supercars. The article tells the story of the ownership and the race history back in the day. As with most supercars - painstaking time and effort went into restoring this car back to original condition. Again this could not have been done without the support of the all the car enthusiast and members of sites like SYC, Camaro.Net, Chevelle.Net and Detriot Horsepower. Thanks again for making it possible. Thanks, Ed Montini http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n_DSC05475.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n_DSC05578.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n_DSC06460.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n_DSC06754.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n_DSC06760.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n_DSC08079.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n_DSC08082.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n_DSC08599.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n_DSC08606.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n_DSC08628.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n_DSC08629.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n_DSC08632.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n_DSC08788.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n_DSC08886.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n_DSC09485.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n_DSC09503.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n_DSC09504.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...n_DSC09515.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...usepics005.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...usepics006.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...usepics008.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...usepics010.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...usepics028.jpg |

Great car Ed! Love the extensive drag racing history! The Atco time card that says DX/S was the class I ran with my sb nova. It was a good drag racing era at that time. Love the color too. Sam https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Thanks everyone for the compliments on the car...it came out exceptional as you can see. I just recieved some additional race pics from the previous owner where the front wheels are off the ground - doing 9.55 at Quaker City!

Re: Ed Montini's 1968 non converted 9737 COPO
I love RG cars... and being a 9737 just adds lots o' Icing...

Re: Ed Montini's 1968 non converted 9737 COPO
I really like RG cars too and since a non converted 9737 keeps the steelies w/ dog caps in place, the resulting combination is truly unique...and deadly!.

Re: Ed Montini's 1968 non converted 9737 COPO
It’s a great rare Camaro and I am not saying anything negative about the car but I have to comment on this article.
I believe my information is being miss-represented in this article and magazine cover. I believe there were more then 6 1968 396 COPO 9737 Camaros sold by Yenko. I gave Tom B. the information about the six unconverted Yenko COPO 9737 cars. This was from a small classified ad I found in some Yenko paperwork where the 5 Corvette Bronze and 1 Rally Green 396 car were for sale late in the year. Hard to get exact numbers on the Yenko car production, but from what I can tell there were about 64 1968 427 cars built and some were not COPO 9737 cars and there were at least 70 COPO 9737 cars ordered (I believe more then 70) so there were probably some 396 COPO 9737 Camaros sold during the year other then the 5 Corvette Bronze and 1 Rally Green cars that were for sale at year end. There is no way to know how many 396 COPO 9737 Camaros were sold by Yenko. Most likely more then 6 were sold during the year. |
