Re: Vintage cars wrecking
Are you talking about the incident that our own Colin was involved in? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif

Re: Vintage cars wrecking

Re: Vintage cars wrecking
That was Road America Elkhart Lake WI 2005. It happened at the start of the race on the front straight. Not seen but also involved was a 289 Cobra.
Some minor injuries; lots of wadded-up vintage race cars. |
Re: Vintage cars wrecking
Here are the rest of the pictures I have. I did not take these pictures and I cannot remember who did to give proper credit. My apologies to the photographer.

Re: Vintage cars wrecking
pray tell, were all of these cars saved, I hope??

Re: Vintage cars wrecking
I'm sure most folks aren't aware that there is a yellow '65 Corvette roadster under the front of Colins TA and the rear of the blue #6 Camaro.
The car is owned by long time racer, Bill Morrison and has only a single hoop roll bar. The car stopped just short of Bill getting hurt bad. They had to remove two cars before you could even see his car. You can see the black hoop in one of the shots. The driver was fine. |

Re: Vintage cars wrecking
If you think these pics are horrible you should see the disc with all the in car video.....the crash is all but over when that guy in the yellow Corvette roadster hits Collin Comer so hard I swear his T/A goes straight up in the air ten feet....another of a Boss Mustang switching lanes and passing as he is going up the hill (before the start) slamming into a Black ex Reggie Jackson Trans-Am raced Z-28...he hit so hard the guy in the Z-28 got knocked out cold with his foot still on the gas pedal.....and your right those 18 guys were very lucky no one got seriously injured.......all because of two stupid people (one doing and one saying stupid things)....

Re: Vintage cars wrecking
Amen. I still can't watch the in-car camera footage start to finish. I won't go as far to say it was two stupid people, as these men may be intelligent in other areas of their lives, but it for sure was two men with very STUPID plans that certainly negatively impacted not only the cars/lives of all (21?) involved but also has given our sport a black eye. Witness the fact that we are still seeing posts like this over 2 years later. So much for vintage racing being a "gentleman's sport" thanks to the few that think Penske has scouts at these events waiting to sign the podium finishers. To them, a big:
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif Colin PS-My T/A is about 99% finished, it will be on the track in 2008. VINTAGE LEGAL and with no idiotic plans to split the grid or cheat, and hoping not to take another flying lesson! |
Re: Vintage cars wrecking
Group-6 has never been a "gentlemans sport" for the 11 or 12 years I was involved....the names have changed but the objective has always been the same, OUTSPEND the next guy in an attempt to win...now if you have both money and a TV show than you can do whatever you like and the same goes for anyone politically connected....certain cars get scrutinized while others get a "free pass".....if I walk into a bank with a gun and demand $1 is it any different than you walking in (with that same gun) and demanding ALL their money?? NO!! So maybe you could explain why certain people with illegal cars get to race and others don`t?? (You would be the first to do so). The motor in my car I went 2:25.0 with in Sept/2005 is 635hp on a dyno up in Appleton...Imagine how fast I might go with a 750hp BB?? The thing I find funniest and saddest at the same time is after winning gr-6 overall six times at R/A, they never sent me any appearance money or prize money (NOT that I ever expected any) but I never even got a victory lap with one of my girls, thats the sad part....It`s OK that my car sits, it`s the third car of three built by one of the most famous Corvette teams of all time and isn`t asking for anything to eat, BUT at the same time the KIC was down 75 entries this year, the ELVF down 40 cars from last year and 70 some cars from 2004....so exactly who is all this new found rules enforcement and selective rules scrutinization helping? It helped a guy win his first R/A race in May and another one win his first R/A race in Sept.
