Anyways, pulled the head and took some pics. Several of the "experts" seem to think it is a valid stamp, and the dates lines up, and the VIN stamp looks good as well.

looks good however the t and p have a ballbat looking effect I think that would be a stamp signature that couldn't be duplicated so it would either be correct or not but im in no way a expert

That effect is the result of the stamp being made while the gang-stamp holder was tilted slightly away from the block. Note that the entire stamping is deeper on the bottom than on the top. Not uncommon on real stampings.

It would be the only known Kansas-built COPO-Chevelle. Start looking for the rest of the car !

Judging by the amount of corrosion and pitting on the deck under the head gasket, I'd say it has not been decked and restamped. IF it was, I'd think the surface would be smoother. You could also measure the height of the head locating pin from the deck and compare to another block that is known to be original. I would think the machining process at Tonawanda would keep those hole depths within .002.

I'm curious to know if you feel a belly where a CON VIN was removed,as was stated back by these two who saw this block at SCR9.

I think that is what ie was illustrating with the straight edge. There is no belly. It looks to me that they were saying the assembly date was removed, not the Consecutive VIN.

I *think* the belly discussion was regarding the MP stamping, and as can clearly be seen in the photo's with the head off there is no belly.

Several people were telling me the MP stamp was a fake. So, the only way to really tell I was told is to remove the head (427 King). Which I did, and after that any doubt was allayed by the three experts. In fact, one got tired of looking at the pics and stated that he had told me several times it was real. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

The three experts are:

1. Kurt Sonin (sp)
2. Jerry MacNeish
3. Jeff (Pacecarjeff)


As far as the VIN being a restamp, I can find no evidence of a belly there either. The "rough" areas are consistent throughout, by that I mean that the rough texture is not smoothed out more by the vin stamp then the rest of the pad area. It is a "little" more smooth than the surrounding cast by the oil filter area, due to sanding.

Although I really don't care (for my purposes), as this is going into my 69 camaro from High School that I recently found. It is a real MP stmping, then it is a L72 and either came out of a chevelle or a camaro.

Several of the accepted "experts" have looked at HiRes close ups and have given it the thumbs up https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif, and Jerry MacNeish will be down again soon and I will have him look it over in person.

Also, I am told that the VIN and the Assembly dates are within the expected date ranges, so that helps as well.
